Chapter 1

The sounds of alarm and metal clashing against eachother roared across The Glade. It drew everyone's attention and they all rushed towards the metal elevator that is moving upwards. They gathered around to witness the newbie that is going to be stuck with them in The Glade for a  lifetime, waiting in anticipation.

Once the elevator reached the top surface, the men used their strength to pry open the hatch. A boy lays weakly on the elevator's floor. His lips were pale and his breathing was weak. He had dark features with a lean build, hair braided with one shaved side, beads decorating his braids. One of the boy standing in the front row, tall and muscular, jumps into the elevator. He slapped the newbie's face a few times to wake him up. The newbie slowly opens his eyes, groaning before his eyes went wide.

"Rise and shine" said the the other boy with an amused grin before hoisting the greenie up.

They all surrounded him as he lays on the grass, eerie sounds assaulting his eardrums and making him squirms. All eyes are on him and they were whispering to eachother, laughing and making the newbie feel overwhelmed by this. He didn't like this one bit.

"Take it all in, greenie" the boy earlier sneered and stood infront of him with his hands on his hips. He didn't look friendly, not even close.

"I- uh- what-" the newbie stammers, looking around the place. A sudden image of himself screaming and banging against the cold metal, screaming for the loud alarm to stop and begging for help, flashed infront of his eyes. His heart rate picks up and it's getting harder to breathe. Out of nowhere he began getting up on his feet and started to push away people that were in his way, running away from them. He didn't know where to go, just going wherever his legs could carry him. He was incredibly fast even though he had just woken up. There were only grass and trees there. He slipped and tumbled over, rolling on the ground. Distant laughters could be heard as he stopped rolling. Slowly, he pushes himself up and looked around. Ginormous wall circling around the huge field, sending shivers down his spine.

He was lifted by the arm by someone, forcing him on his feet. He lifted his head to face the person and thank god it wasn't the boy earlier. This boy had dark features aswell as him, with golden brown eyes and long, braided hair that pasts his shoulders. Like him, his hair also had beads woven in his hair. He was tall, slightly toned.

"You're not going anywhere, green bean" he said with a small chuckle, flashing his crooked teeth.

"Where am I? What is this place?" the clueless newbie asked, eyes trailing along the walls and stopped at an open gap between them. A way out, he thought. The boy just chuckled and leads him towards what looks like a small village.

"Welcome to the Glade."

"do you remember your name?" asked the boy as they arrived at the Pit. He was showing the newbie around for a bit. The Gladers; the people, were scattered around doing their assigned duties. Some were feeding the goats and sheep, some harvesting crops and some were carrying stuff around.

"no.." the newbie pinched his temple, trying to remember his own name. He couldn't have forgotten. He tried to remember any other details about himself, or the life he had before he got here. Nothing. Only the dark memories of him in the metal elevator.

"why can't i remember anything?" he stresses.

"relax.." the boy patted the newbie's back, a comforting gesture. "it's normal, I've been there, everyone have been there. Don't worry, you'll remember your name again after a day or two"
