Song in chapter: Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri ^^^^^

I refold my paper at the creases, creating a beautiful paper airplane. I shut one eye as I aim it at my best friend, Vixy's head.

A satisfying shriek echos from all walls, and I grin from ear to ear.

"MIYA MARIE PHILLIPS!" She rises from her seat at the front of the room, and marches to the back corner where I am still smiling like I won an award.

"Yes, dear Vix?" I bat my eyelashes and ask in an innocent six-year-old voice.

"You remembered!" She cheers, hugging my 'round my neck. "Our sixth annual Prank Wars! I'd though you'd forgotten by now!"

"How could I forget? Oliver still has yellow paint behind his ears and between his toes." Vix had dropped an entire can of yellow oil paint all over my pet piglet, which I cleverly named Oliver.

"We need to C-E-L-E-BRATE. Dinner and dessert are on me!" She hugs me one more time before retreating back to her seat as the teacher enters the room. Like a routine, every time a teacher enters the classroom, I put my ear buds in a zone out.

"Hello, my name is Ms. Larson and I've been teaching--"

I close my eyes and enjoy some Christina Perri.

"No I can't take one more step towards you,

'Cause all that's waiting is regret

Don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore

You lost the love I love the most

I learned to live half alive

And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are?

Runnin' 'round leaving scars,

Collecting your jar of hearts,

And tearing love apart

You're gonna catch a cold,

From the ice inside your soul

So don't come back for me,

Who do you think you are?"

The ear buds are ripped from my ears, and I look up to glare at the teacher.

Only it's not Ms. Larson.

My eyes meet his hazel ones, swirling with confusion and other unreadable emotions. He nudges the kid in the desk next to me, and said kid hurriedly gathers his stuff and rushes to the other side of the room. Hazel-eyed boy here sits in the seat without breaking eye contact, and kind of studies me for a minute or two.

I give him a 'WTF?' look at put the ear bud back in my ear, closing my eyes again.

But I still feel the burns off his gaze on me, and I shift uncomfortably, trying to focus on the music in my ears.

"I learned to live half alive

And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are?

Runnin' 'round leaving scars,

Collecting your jar of hearts,

And tearing love apart

You're gonna catch a cold,

From the ice inside your soul

So don't come back for me,
