The redhead got up from the bleachers, Arceus he was tall, he stalked over to the field chanting bloody murder in his head... It certainly looked like he was.

"Totodile! Time for battle!" The guy said it harshly enough to make me cringe, with mew/ jolteon now wide awake, now observing the battle.

"That guy is not going to win." Mew said telepathically. I wholeheartedly agreed. It looked like Falkener would definitely. Not going to lie, redhead's attitude made it seem like he didn't know a thing about pokemon... Falkener sent out his pidgey, a spark of determination in his eye. He probably wasn't terribly eager to lose his third battle in a row, courtesy of goldy and I, who was at this moment, watching with a peaked interest.

"Totodile, Water gun!" Totodile reacted to the command, but unfortunately, not fast enough. The pidgey sent a well aimed gust flying Totodiles way sending it sprawling as Falkener watched on calmly "Get up!" The redhead commanded, he was starting to get on my nerves, you can't just treat a pokemon like that! Mew was reacting in a similar way to the mal-treatment of the totodile, she was grinding her teeth and small sparks of electricity were running down her fur. The pidgey was striking again and again, after every attack the poor Totodile was forced to get up again and again at command of it's trainer. "Get up you worthless pokemon!" He was shouting now. "Why did I even think a pokemon like you could ever be strong?"  Mew and I made a simultaneous decision. People aren't called cruel for just any reason but this guy was pushing that definition.

"Alright, that's it!" I yelled getting up, Mew at my side. "STOP IT!" I ran in front of the two attacking pokemon and snatched up the damaged Totodile while mew held off the redhead. I raised a questioning eyebrow at the gym leader who shrugged and nodded for me to carry on.

"Hey! You can't do that!" Shouted the more than pissed off redhead.

"Well, maybe if you stopped yelling at you pokemon every damned second then maybe I wouldn't have interfered with you 'oh so important battle'" I retorted arrogantly. He stalked over, he moved in cold calculated movement, reminding me of a Persian, a glared down at me. It must have looked ridiculous; a girl with a height of 5 foot nothing glaring at a guy with a height of 6 foot something.

"Oh, so a little girl is telling me what to do?" I simply stood there shook my head as I stroked the Totodile who was making an effort to try and hide itself in my jacket.

"you got a problem with that?"

"As a matter of fact. I do. If your so tough, what do you say to a pokemon battle?" His piercing metal eyes shifted in the light, making him even more intimidating. Oh, and did I mention he was now currently smirking like the devil, obviously expecting me to back down.

"You bet. Right here, right now. Heal your pokemon and come right back." His face went blank for a second but his evil grin came back so fast you probably could have imagined it. I gave him back his cowering Totodile and then waited until he had returned from the healer. The real battle was about to begin. I made sure no one was looking and nudged Mew with my foot to get her attention and then closed my eyes and reached for the familiar thread of power and tugged. When I opened my eyes I was once again a Ponyta while mew stood next to me as well... Me. The only difference was that the 'Mew' me had blue eyes instead of my green ones. If anyone around had seen us me change into a pokemon and a jolteon turn into a human, they weren't reacting. Phew. The ref from the gym stepped forward and let us officially started the battle. I stepped forward onto the battlefield, now I was relying on my instincts and my move pool to guide me through this battle.

A battle I was pretty sure I would win.

Silver POV

Arceus, this girl was an annoying brat. And her typical girl Ponyta looked like the one that I ran into me earlier  too. Since Totodile was going to be battling her type matchup was completely baffling, she had a jolteon didn't she? A fire type against a water type? Ha! This was too easy, even if Totodile looked about as fresh as 2 week old vegetables. "Totodile, Water gun!" The Ponyta stood there calmly as the jet of water rushed towards it. The trainer was smirking, her blue eyes gleaming... Wait? Weren't they green a second ago? Just as the water was about to hit the ponyta it leaped over 10 meters into the air. And stayed there! Everyone in the gym looked up in disbelief at the flying horse. The faint outline of wings could be seen surrounding the Ponyta. It hurtled down towards the ground, a nose cone of electric energy formed around the Ponyta as it came crashing down, directly at Totodile... "Dodge!" I yelled as my mine put two and two together; Bounce and Wild Charge combo. Totodile gave a small yelp as it stared in horror at the oncoming attack. One second too late it tried to move out of the way but a huge explosion was seen when the Ponyta made impact with it. Totodile lay there fainted with the Ponyta standing there looking like a regal queen even though it would have taken serious recoil from the wildcharge...

"I'm really starting to hate you." I muttered audibly.

"Right back at'cha"

"I'm not done yet" I called, a look of pure murder was very visible on my face as I sent out my last pokemon; Sneasel. "Metal claw!" It rushed forward with a sense of purpose that Totodile would never even get close to imitating. To my great surprise the Ponyta leapt gracefully over the incoming attack and kicked Sneasel in the back of the head with enough force that you could hear the impact of the blow from outside the gym. "Sneasel get up! Now!" It lay there for a few seconds but it rose unsteadily to it's feet at my command.I looked away from Sneasel, my eyes landing on the trainer who was currently glaring at me. "What?" I said indignantly.

"Oh, nothing, I just saw you yelling at your pokemon again" she huffed with as much sarcasm as possible. And with that note she issued the first command she had uttered all battle. "Overheat!" The Ponyta, closed it's eyes and then opened them again. They were red.

The temperature of the room rose, in the center of it was the ponyta, heat pulsing out of it. A wave of fire flickered to life around it's hooves as it started to grow. In the middle of the ocean of fire was sneasel, it had fainted but the heat continued, it came up to the edge of the field and coated the room in a muggy cloud, "cough, cough, Stop! it's over! cough, cough" I yelled at the girl who was idly picking her fingernails.

"Not until you say sorry to Sneasel and Totodile and congratulate them on their hard work."

"And why should I?"

"Because you've hurt them and it's all your fault. If you want your pokemon to resent you forever, you must say sorry and appreciate them for what they are. Not what you want them to be." The fire was now swirling around my feet, not touching me but close enough that I was sweating up a storm.

"No way! Your ponyta can't keep this up long enough anyways" I grimaced when I said the lie; the ponyta looked as fresh as if it had just started the move.

"Try me" The girl was now fiddling with her oddly coloured crimson highlights that accented  her caramel blonde hair  "you know it would be a shame to see such a pretty guy burned to a crisp because of a tiny girl and her girly pokemon" She was right I could probably crush her if she wasn't hiding behind her pokemon. She was also right about her pokemon, Ponytas were usually seen a cutsey and weak.

'Well maybe if you weren't bitching about this so much, we'd get along" There it was, my most dangerous weapon, my words.

"Doubt it" She sighed barely reacting to the insult "Okay ponyta, the least we can do for the poor bastard is to burn him to a crisp and steal his pokemon, he's obviously as thick as a dewgong" She said sarcastically, the flames now flickered closer completely blocking my view of sneasel, who was now being picked up by Gold, my idiotic rival, if you can call him a rival. But Arceus this was getting unbearable, a stray flame curled away from the tornado of fire that surrounded me and seared the edge of my jacket.

"Okay, I'm sorry! God dammit woman!" I yelled, stomping on my jacket to try and quench the fire. Then all of a sudden the flames went and the heat returned to normal, I saw my sneasel was getting treated by Gold and and the girl was walking over to Totodile who was still woozy from the battle. It looked like she had just returned her ponyta and then sent out her jolteon, weird I never saw her do that. So much for showing the girl who's boss. I walked over to the girl and glared at her while I spoke "Well you beat me happy?"

"Not really. Your battling style is atrocious. The names Crimson and I can't be bothered to know yours, and if you'll excuse me I need to take this Totodile somewhere it can rest" Something about that name, someone from Kanto. Eh, must be a coincidence. She picked up the Totodile in her arms and shoved past me, until she ran into Gold. Looking like she was, with an already mutinous expression, I could tell this would be good.
