"He's a beautiful baby."
"Yes, he is." The other voice said. My dad. The voice on the tape triggered nostalgia. My dad who passed away a few years ago. The tape ended.
But that was me, on the day of my birth. The best day my parents said they had, and they've been telling me that over and over again. Born with a curse that anyone who saw me would fall in love with me.
School was fine the early years before puberty. But then first two years of high school and I've had quite a few confessions from people who crushed on me. I've always wanted to move; this year however, I could finally get what I want. Seriously, I just can't stand it anymore; I needed to go somewhere else for high school or else I'll never have a normal social life.
I was going to give myself a new make over so no one could see the real me. I would try and hide my face with anything. This was the year, I was going to blend in with everyone else. No more popularity for me, and in two days, school starts. What are people going to say when they see me. Will they hate me?
I mean, I actually don't mind the hate, except maybe I might get bullied. That part scared me.
"Mom, I'm going out to go buy something." I shouted. Today, I was going to buy some accessories. "Alright, but be back before seven." she answered. Right now was four, so I had three hours to do some shopping.
I drove up to the mall, and parked my car. I threw on the hood over my head, so no one could see me. There were so many stores here. It wasn't long before I found one that sold some cover ups. I saw a fake scar. Maybe I could wear this one? Without a second thought, I tried it on sticking it near my eyes. It looked pretty sick, but real enough, so I bought it.
I walked out pulling my hood over my head again, but just as I did, I bumped into someone causing me to fall back. "Watch where you're-" he said and stared at me. When I looked up, I saw the most amazing brown eyes that made me feel dizzy and my heart beated a little faster. "Sorry, for knocking you over." he apologized and extended his hand for me. "It's okay." I mumbled slowly standing up, and walked past him. "Wait, you dropped something." he said, and I turned around to see my shopping bag. Right before I could grab it back, he moved it away putting it out of my reach.
"What's your name? I never seen you around here before." he asked. Here it all goes again. It surprised me at first, but some guys actually do have crushes on me. I'm bisexual however, so it never really bothered me or made me feel uncomfortable, and this guy wasn't exactly unattractive.
"I'm Niall." I whispered, reaching for my bag. "Nice meeting you Niall. I'm Zayn." he smiled, and handed it back to me. As I was about to turn and leave, he held onto my arm. "Will I ever see you again?" he smirked. I rolled my eyes, "Maybe." and I pulled away from him continuing to walk. For the next two hours, I couldn't find anything at all. I guess this scar will just have to do for now.
"Niall, you're back just in time." my mom said, "This is your cousin, Liam." she stepped aside, to reveal a tall young man about my age. He had soft brown hair, and light brown eyes. His body looked like he had been working out.
"Hey, Niall." he said to me. "Hi." I mumbled. I know usually that my charm doesn't really affect family members that much, but it's possible though. Once, my girl-cousin developed a little thing for me when I was younger, but that was a long time ago. We never saw each other anymore.
"Honey, we invited him over for dinner. You two should get to know each other more. Why don't you show him around Niall." my mom said. "Okay." I said, and asked him to follow me to my room. He looked around, but didn't say anything. It was quite awkward. "You like the Script?" Liam said pointing to my poster. "Yeah, I love them." I smiled, "That's cool, I've heard their music, it's pretty good." he stated.
"Yeah, their song Break Even was the best." I grinned, I love to play music, both listening to it and making it myself. It gets things off my mind when I'm feeling down. "Really, I should have a listen to it sometimes." he said. "Hey, you're going to my school in two days right?" Liam asked. "Yeah, I am. Anderson Hale Academy right?" I asked. "That's the one." he said.
"Boys! it's time for dinner!" I heard my mom call, and headed downstairs with Liam. Throughout the whole dinner, Liam and I talked the whole time, it was like we instantly clicked. He was the only person in my life who I felt could relate to me, and was like we were best friends. I was a little disappointed when he had to go. Maybe I'll see him at school on Monday, then we could talk some more. I wonder how school life will be like this year?
