"Scary vampires."

Beams of icy blue light danced across her closed eye lids as she felt her body sway to and fro as if she was on a hammock. Her hand dipped so low that she felt the cold pavement grace her fingertips as flashes of ice rods and pools of blood were played like a show, a lucid dream, as she was carried somewhere. The waves of pain, of hunger, of thirst washed over her like a tsunami. Her feet were freezing and her toes curled inward as her eyes clamped shut.

She could hear her heart beating, she knew it was still there, and yet there was a part of her that was determined to think herself dead-a zombie being brought to her own burial.

The frigid outside air wrapped her like a blanket-as unwanted as a coat on a hot summer's day. She could feel the ice creeping up her spine and sense the wind blowing past her hair. It seemed like every sense was strengthened in that very moment. Every little thing was magnified and then multiplied. She wasn't sure where she was, but she was almost certain that she was outside. She was being carried or cradled by another being and the only thing that told her that was the feeling of movement and the feeling of clothing that occasionally brushed against her bare arm. The being who was carrying her was not warm-they were cold to the bone, almost as cold as the wind blowing by.

The loud creak of a door or a gate caught her attention. They were taking her somewhere inside some place. Maybe even somewhere warm. Murmurs entered the equation, filling her ears with a low bass voice. The person was talking to someone, presumably about her. Due to the hunger, pain, and overwhelming thirst she felt, the girl wasn't able to make out any specific words or phrases. It was all just a blurry mess. The only thing she really knew was the cold, the pure absence of heat. She was so cold and so lonely.

A louder, more joyous sounding voice spoke up, competing with the low voice for dominance in her hearing. They might be arguing and they might not be. She really couldn't tell.

Footfalls sounded throughout the place, letting her know that it was a large area that could echo sounds fairly well. A cacophony of voices merged together, making one wave of different emotions mixed together, some voices strong, some weak, some angry, some happy, and some were undecided. Finally the joyous voice put an end to the wave of people and they all quieted. The being holding her, whatever it was, shifted her a little bit and she felt her head loll against an appendage, maybe an arm. She couldn't gather the muscle, the energy, to even move her head.

"Until we figure out which class this girl will be moved to and her name, I demand that all of you go back to your dorms and stay in your classes. We can't have any disruptions right now." The voice which seemed so happy earlier got a bit serious, obviously putting a damper on the murmuring crowd's mood. While the girl was excited that she was able to make out some words, she was fairly confused by the man's words. Class? Name? She didn't know what one of those words meant and the other meant nothing to her. She didn't need a name when no one had ever bothered to address her.

"Yes," the bass voice responded, causing a rumble to ripple through the being holding her, "I will be looking forward to seeing you all later-for now, I must part to attend to my duties." His voice was serious and solemn, leaving no room for any discussion. It also flashed warning signs in her mind. She had heard this voice before. It rang familiar in her mind, she had surely met whoever was holding her before.

"We love you, Kaname!" the crowd squealed. Soon there were receding footsteps and loud squeals of obvious delight. The rustle of the wind almost covered the sound of the cries of joy as the crowd disappeared. The girl wished she could open her eyes to see the commotion and discern what was happening. Her eyes were seemingly glued shut though, her body numb and unable to function.
