The only good thing about school is probably the breaks. You meet new people and have time to relax or fool around with your friends. Breaks are some of the rare moments within the school building that are full of happy carefreeness. What Joy was most looking forward to was probably seeing him again, even if she would never admit it to her friends. When the bell rang, the entire class jumped up and quickly packed their things to escape the boring history class and run to their well-deserved break. "Come on, Joy!The others are waiting for us," said her best friend Aanya. "Yeah, I'm coming," replied Joy and quickly packed up her things. The two ran to their lunch spot where they always met up with their friends from the parallel class to eat. As soon as they sat down, someone ran up to Joy and jumped into her arms. " Hiiii! "I missed you so much," the girl squealed. "Yeah Anie, I missed you too in the two hours we didn't see each other," Joy mumbled dully and sarcastically. Anie broke away from her again and turned to Aanya: "Hey Aanya, ca va?" She joined the group and started talking. When Anie starts talking, it's extremely difficult to stop her. Most of the time she raved about him and left the others no choice but to listen to her. It was a kind of open secret that she liked him, but he didn't like her. But Anie wasn't ready to let him go.
Jay had been living in Mauritius, an island off Madagascar, for 7 months now. She is a 15-year-old, relatively tall and slim girl with short, blonde curls and green eyes. She loves to read while sitting on her terrace in her white hammock seat and sipping a mojito or riding her bike into the forest and taking photos of the view and the fresh dew on the leaves. Since living in Mauritius, she went to an international school where the main language was English but most students and teachers also spoke French. Anie was one of the few German people at school and she was a form below Aanya and Joy. Anie and Aanya mostly spoke French to each other and Joy and Anie spoke German. Joy also had to learn French, but couldn't speak it as well as the others. Every break the three of them played hide and seek with some friends from Form 4. The friends were allowed to hide throughout the school and the trio had to find them. There was a boy named Ethan who Anie had the biggest crush you could ever imagine. He also spoke French and English. In reality, Joy always found Ethan immediately, but didn't tell the others to help him.
After everyone had finished eating, Anie jumped up and shouted: "Let's go guys! My darling is waiting for me!" And she started running towards F Block. Aanya and Joy exchanged a disgusted look and ran after her.
The school is divided into three buildings, the first is the A Block and the B Block. The B block is downstairs and the A block is the floor above. The other two blocks are constructed in the same way and all blocks are connected by wide, open hallways. The girls split up and each took one block. Joy searched F Block, first downstairs where the science labs were and then upstairs where the regular classrooms were. On the way up, she pondered an upcoming assignment where they had to work in groups of two to build a model of a natural disaster of their choice. She and Aanya had chosen the large tsunami Claudette and wanted to try to recreate it using plaster and modeling clay. Lost in thought and not paying attention to the path, she suddenly slammed into a classroom door. Startled, she rubbed her nose: "Fuck!"
Suddenly the door opened and Joy almost fell face first into the classroom but someone held the door just in time to stop her. Joy looked up and looked into a pair of gray eyes with a slight lavender glow, quickly followed by the words of a soft but clear voice: "Are you okay?" For a moment, Joy wanted to simply fall onto Ethan's muscular chest, but then she pulled herself together. "Yup, I'm fine. Where are your friends?" Ethan let go of the door and leaned against the doorframe. "We decided to split up. What about Aanya and Anie?" Joy continued to hold her nose. "We also split up. Anie should be searching the C Block right next to us so she will probably see us if we don't hide. Aanya went to the..." Ethan suddenly put his hand over Joy's mouth and pulled her into the classroom. With full swing the two slammed into the wall and the door slammed shut. Just a second later they heard quick footsteps running past them and the two of them held their breath. As soon as the footsteps had faded, Ethan took his hand from Joy and the two burst out laughing. In the middle of laughing, Joy noticed that Ethan's leg was between hers and he was pushing her against the wall with her hands. Her cheeks immediately turned red and she stopped laughing. Ethan also stopped and looked at her silently for a moment until he pulled himself together and asked: "Are you sure you're OK? Your face is kinda red..." Startled, Joy stammered: "Oh that, that's just... no im good, really, I'm fine." There was an arkward silence while they just stared at each other. "It's really hot today," said Joy, desperate to make some conversation." Why don't we have any fans or air conditions at school? Wouldn't that be a good reason to spend money..." In the middle of her sentence, Ethan suddenly leaned closer to her and without thinking about it, she closed her eyes and kissed him right on the mouth.
Hey dear readers!
I started this story because I lived in Mauritius myself and just wanted to tell a bit about my experiences. So Joy represents me in some places. I hope you like the story and sorry for any spelling mistakes or anything similar.
I'll try to post new chapters as often as possible but it will probably come down to one chapter per week. I'm very sorry that I don't have that much time, but I'll try to stick to the time.
Have fun while reading
