The last day of school

The soft glow of morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm golden hue across my bedroom as I reluctantly peeled myself out of bed. It was the final day of Year 12, a day marked by both excitement and trepidation.

As I made my way to the bathroom, a sense of anticipation tingled in the air. Today was the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, the day we would bid farewell to the familiar halls of our school and embark on the next chapter of our lives.

"I can't believe it's finally here," I murmured to myself, my voice barely above a whisper.

In the kitchen, my mother bustled about, preparing breakfast with an air of nervous energy. "Your last dayyyy!" Lily sung, humming along the way.

"Yup," I replied, though uncertainty gnawed at the edges of my confidence.

After dressing in my school uniform, I paused in front of the mirror, my fingers brushing through my straightened hair. I debated whether to leave it down or tie it up, but in the end, I decided to embrace the effortless elegance of leaving it loose.

As I made my way downstairs, the energy in the house crackled with excitement. Today was a day of celebration, a chance to reflect on the memories we had made and the friendships we had forged over the years.

But beneath the surface, there was an undercurrent of tension, a sense that not all was right within our tight-knit group of friends.

Veronica, my best friend, met me at the front door, her expression strained. "Are you ready for today?" she asked, though her tone belied the turmoil swirling beneath the surface.
