It was unusually chilly for a September night in Texas. The air carried by the breeze was unpleasant as it hit Emelia's skin and she regretted not bringing a jacket over her flannel. Quickly glancing at the sleeping boy in his car seat, she finally mustered up the courage to ring the doorbell.

Divorce is rarely easy, less so if you have a kid together and even less if you are still painfully in love with the person. However, she found it easier to handle not being with the love of her life than dropping off her son at his place every weekend.

The light on the porch turned on and her back straightened as if it would make her seem more collected. This was, hands down, the most dreadful part of the week for Emilia. As the door started opening, she could see Nick's silhouette slowly appearing.

He was still handsome as he always was. His shirt hugged his shoulders which only seemed rounder than she remembered and without a doubt he had been working out. Even when they were together, Emilia always thought he was too good-looking to be with someone as average as her. What was even better than the fact he was total eye candy was the fact he was the most genuinely nice guy she had ever met.

"Hi, Em." His blue eyes pierced through hers as they stood at a comfortable distance from one another. She nodded back in response.

"He fell asleep on the way here." Emilia gestured towards the car. "I didn't want to wake him."

Nick shifted in his place and stole a glance at his ex-wife before walking past her. His muscles were more prominent as he lifted the boy with ease, trying his best not to wake him. Good thing little Dean had always been a heavy sleeper.

"I guess I'll see you Sunday." She waved with an awkward smile while turning to get into her car. If only she could stay and return everything as it once was.

"Hey, Em?" Nick whisper shouted still carrying their sleeping son in his hands.

Emilia turned her head to look up at him as she was already one foot in the car. "Yeah?"

"Try to get some sleep. You look like hell." He whispered the last part so quietly he thought she had not heard it. The small hint of worry in his voice made her heart flutter for a second. She spared one more look at him before nodding and getting into the car.

As she saw that porch light went off, she took it as a cue to start the car up. It did not turn on without a couple of curse words and twisting the keys with just the right amount of pressure. Emilia was aware that she needed a new car, but letting this one go did not feel right. It was the one thing in her life that seemed to always be there in continuity, unlike a lot of other things.

David Bowie's The Man Who Sold the World played quietly, cassette occasionally hissing as it had been played so many times by now. That song among many others she had liked was all a part of the legendary Sistape which she received as a gift for her 21st birthday from Dean. That made it much more special.

The drive was easy as there were not many cars on the road but she was not exactly excited to get home as soon as possible knowing what would wait for her there. Her head was spinning with questions and possible outcomes of a long-delayed family reunion. It did not feel right for it to be happening now, but, on the other hand, she was not sure if it ever would.

As she neared her driveway, Emilia could not help but notice the '67 Chevy Impala which stood proud in her usual spot, earning a groan from her. Now, she would have to park in the garage and she hated parking there. Thoughts of meaningless revenge towards her idiot brother surprisingly made her relax a bit.

Even though she took the keys out of the ignition after safe parking, she still was not courageous enough to get up from her seat. At this point, she was sure that not anything she would say could make her brothers not angry with her. Leaving hunting life was one thing, but shutting everyone out? It was not a good person move.
