Lexi:

My life was ruined when I joined high school. I mean, of course typical teen girl right?

At least that's what my parents say. It's the angst, lex, get over it.

But seriously, the boys.. horrible, the girls.. even worse. I'm a girls girl, but not when it comes to horrible ones who don't have any respect for anyone.

"Lexi? You listening?" My best friend, Cece asks.

Cece is beautiful, so sweet. Inside and out. I guess people say we're opposites and I wouldn't disagree.

Her long, blonde hair is curly, as usual. Mine straight and boring.

"It's maths, C... I couldn't give a shit about Pythagoras' theorem." Her giggle is loud, but no one turns around.

Everyone is doing their own things, very few actually listening.

"Right, true. Anyways, could you make a pasta for my ma? You know, her birthday on
Saturday."
"Mhm, what type?"

I've been baking since I can remember.

The first time, according to my mom, was when I turned three. I helped make my cousin's birthday cake, then her sister's and then helped make my own.

It started with cakes, but I went beyond that. People (my parents) think it's childish, that I just like to play around and it's nothing serious.

It's so much more.

"Carbonara, please!"
"You wanna help?" She'll say no to be polite.
"The artist only ever asks for help so they don't sound rude."
"And the person only ever declines because they want to be nice. I want you to help and I know you want to."

Her smile grows and she hugs me tightly.

"You're amazing, Lexi."
"You too, Cece."

After finishing our conversation, I look around the room, analysing people's expressions.

I spot Rowan, who's joining properly next week. I've never spoken to him, or him to me, but I've heard all about him.

He's the popular, bright young kid with potential and a perfect life. Or at least that's what I've heard.

"Someone's got a crush!" My best friend whispers, teasing me again.
"As if, you'd be too much sunshine together for me to handle."

Sunshine.

"Never!"

~

"Alexaaaa!" Conner taunts me, as if he thinks it's funny.
"Fuck off, Collins."

My name is not Alexa. Everyone knows it.

I don't talk to the boys at my school too much, actually... okay, never.

But they all know my name is lexi, they all know I hate it when they call me Alexa.

However, people just annoy me sometimes. Even when they're trying not to. And I don't want to be rude, so I try not to speak to people that much.

Also, because it's awkward and I hate people here.

"Stop being rude, I asked you a question, Lexi."
"No conner, I don't know where Cece is."

Conner and most boys, are obsessed with her. Her family is pretty popular, she used to be one of those childhood family bloggers. Still is, actually.

But now her mom's sick and people care about her. She's grown and pretty and innocent, I hate how the boys manipulate that.

"You sure?"
"Yes, jeez."

"Hey!" Not another one.
"What?" I say harshly, meeting eyes with the new kid.

Rowan, I've heard about him.

"Sorry, um... you got a ruler?"
"We're in computer science, sunny. No work in books, right?"
"Right, no, right. Sorry, um, byee!"

He walks off, turning back to me several times.

Weird.

But cute.

Ew, wait what? No.

He has fluffy blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes. Basically opposite to me.

I have straight, dark brown hair and light brown eyes. Freckles all over my face and not to mention, I'm a bitch.

A quiet, antisocial bitch obsessing over a loud, extroverted sweetheart.

Rowan. Sounds sweet even in my brain.

He's talked to me once, I already hate him. Ok, no, I don't hate him... I just-

No.

I can't.
