September 1st, 2002.

I woke early this wonderful Sunday morning and got ready to start a very vigerous day of training at the Tuscaloosa institute. Halfway out of bed I remembered that to day is my birthday, my twelfth birthday to be exact. My dad was always cautious when talking about my twelfth birthday for some reason. I hurried to get dressed and headed down to the library to see my dad before training. My dad greeted me with a half astonished, "Happy birthday son." He ushered me into one of the chairs in front of the desk, then took the chair beside me and started a long narrative. "I'm about to tell you about your mother and her side of the family." he said. "Get comfy it's a long story." The story when a little something like this: My mom is the Greek Goddess Athena, who found a fancy for my dad one day when she was out doing Godly arrans, and Dad was patrolling Manhattan with some local Shadow- hunters when Athena saw him and fell in love with him. She came back to Alabama with Dad and had me. She then left dad, the head of the Tuscaloosa institute to either raise his newborn son, safe in the institute as a Shadowhunter or send me to Camp Half-Blood to be raised a Demigod. He opted for the Shadowhunter part. At the conclusion of the story Dad announced that she did leave me a gift for when I reached the age of twelve. He when to a tile on the floor, drew an opening rune, and produced a beautiful sword. It was a Greek style short sword with a two side edge. The blade is two sided (like Backbiter from the PJO series) one side was Celestial Bronze with an imgraved owl, the other was adamas with the Angel's marks. Dad handed the sword to me and it felt amazingly balanced in my hand. "I give you this sword as Athena told me to." Dad said. "It comes with, one, a protection from both types of monster you'll have to face, and two, a choice, to complete your Shadowhunter training, or go to New York and be trained as a Demigod. The choice is completely up to you." I studied my sword for a moment, then turned and walked to the training room for today's lesson. My choice was clear.
