11 years old me
"Lio's perspective."
*knock, knock*This sound pulled me out of my thoughts. I looked at the door and saw my father entering the room.
I stared at my father standing in the doorway.
Lio: Dad, what's wrong?
Dad: Come to the kitchen immediately!
My father went away again.
I waited for a moment before closing my book and heading to the kitchen.I sat down and stared at my parents-not with the happy expression that children usually have when they haven't seen their parents for three weeks. No, I just looked at them with an empty gaze.
This was new; usually, they were never home on the same day. Normally, when they weren't on a business trip, they argued. But today? An eerie calm.
There we sat. I stared at them, and they stared at me.
Lio: What's going on?
I asked when they didn't respond.
Mum: We're sending you to boarding school, no arguments. Go pack your things.
Lio: But-
Mum: No! You know we're always on the go. We don't have time for someone like you.
Something in me broke. Someone like me? Why am I so bad?
Lio: And what about my siblings?
Mom: Don't worry about them. They'll move in with your grandparents. You create too much work. Now pack your things, come on!
I stared at them for a moment and went upstairs to my room, starting to pack my things.
Always me, damn it. Why do they hate me so much? What have I done to them, damn it!
I lay on my bed, trying to sleep.
4 in the morning
I heard a noise and opened my eyes. I heard someone arguing again. Again. I went to my parents' door and heard them arguing, as they often did lately.
I covered my ears; it was too loud. I don't want to hear this. I ran to my room and kept covering my ears.
I don't want this; no, can't they be quiet? It's too loud... it's too loud...
I saw my mother enter my room, looking at me disgusted.
Mom: HAVEN'T YOU LEARNED NOT TO EAVESDROP? YOU PIECE OF TRASH!
She pulled me by the arm.Lio: I'm sorry-
Mom: YOU SHOULD BE, YOU PIECE OF GARBAGE! I WILL TEACH YOU WHAT RESPECT IS!
She dragged me down the stairs.
Lio: Please, no- I'm sorry- please-
Before I could finish my sentence, she
threw me outside. My head hit the hard, wet ground.
I still heard her slam the door. That was it.
I lay on the cold, wet ground, staring at the gray sky. Raindrops fell on my face, and I had a headache.
Am I dying now? Is this how I die? Will I finally be left in peace?..
I try to open my eyes, but everything around me is so loud. A scent of disinfectant lingers in the air. The light is bright, and as I attempt to open my eyes, I realize that the walls are white. It hurts so much; I can't open my eyes. Where am I?
Suddenly, everything goes black... Am I dead?
_2h later_
I slowly open my eyes and stare at the white ceiling. My head hurts; that's the first thought that crosses my mind.
I look to the side and recognize my brother Ye-jun. He sits by the side of my bed, just two years older than me. I observe his brown hair inherited from our mother and his light brown eyes from our father. He looks at me with concern.
I smile warmly at him, something I only do with my siblings, as everyone else is irrelevant to me.
Lio: "Don't worry, everything is fine," I speak softly.
Ye-jun: "Lio..." he speaks sadly, "...Mom and Dad have separated."
I am shocked, although I should have seen it coming. My throat tightens, and words fail me.
Lio: "I think you should leave," I speak with a broken voice to my brother.
Ye-jun: "Lio-"
Lio interrupts him: "It's okay, I'll be fine," he says with a hoarse voice.
_Three days later_
I lie on my hospital bed, staring at the ceiling.
It's been three days, and my parents haven't visited me once.
Tomorrow, I'll be discharged from the hospital.
However, the excitement is absent because leaving here means heading to the boarding school. My thoughts are interrupted by a nurse entering my room, bringing me some food.
leo:"Thanks,"
I reply briefly before returning to my thoughts...._______________________________________
