Dearest, cleverest, Starflight,

I hope you make someone read you this letter at ONCE, even though I can't imagine anyone else at the academy  reads with as much expression as I do! I have been worrying and worrying about you because all my visions are telling me that you miss me so dreadfully. I had one the other day where you were just lying on a window seat in the library, with your noble nose pointed out at the sky, sighing and murmuring, "Fatespeaker... oh, Fatespeaker... life is so empty without you." Well, I miss you, too, mister handsome-snout. And don't worry, I'll be back in the library with you as soon as I can!

I will say Queen Moorhen's palace is quite fascinating. In my visions, it was a lot browner and damper, but in reality, it is on a lake and fulll of sunlight and blanket forts. I mean, that's not exactly what they are. You know how the Night Wing palace had corners where any dragon could go sit and read quietly? The blanket forts are like that, but they're not for solo dragons. Each one is built for at least six dragons to curl up together, tails and talons intertwined, so they can chat about their day or share stories or make plans or just peacefully be together, There's one in nearly every room. Isn't that interesting? I haven't seen any spots for dragons to be alone - it's like they figure you'll always want to be with someone else, so there should be room for all of you. Does that make sense?

(It made me think about our library design, actually. You and I think like  Night Wings - well, sort of! Night Wings who grew up in a really weird way! But maybe  we should ask the students for ideas about study spaces. We should definitely have a blanket fort or two for our Mud Wings to study in together!)

Anyway anyway! I talked to Queen Moorhen, like you asked! She was very nice (Just like my visions predicted!) and only a little bit completely intimidating (Not sure why that wasn't in my visions!). I asked her for scrolls that would represent the most important bits of Mud Wing history or culture, and she took me to the palace library. (You. Would. DIE! It is SO COOL!)

She chose two scrolls and let me copy them out for you - I'm sending them along with the messenger who's bringing you this letter. I hope they're what you're looking for! The first one is the most ancient scroll they had, which is why it's all faded and in fragments. It looks like it's a part of a dragon's diary and it's all about this hatching where there was a - well, you'll see! I don't want to ruin the surprise!

And then the second one is  about this huge Mud Wing crisis a  couple of centuries ago, and it's written by queen Moorhen's own great-great grandfather. WHAT! I wish I could be there to see your fa/xce when you get this (But in my visions you are freaking out and hugging all the scrolls you can reach).

Write back soon and let me know that you love the scrolls and also tell me everything that's happening at the school so I don't miss a single thing while i'M off on my awesome research adventure!

Love,

Fatespeaker

The Mysterious Egg

----wasn't sure what to do. It's my first hatching and I'm so afraid I did something wrong.

I know I'm supposed to leave them. My sibs keep telling me the eggs will be fine. They're supposed to be alone. The nest is well sheltered and hidden by rocks, and the warm mud will protect it.

But my brothers and sisters didn't see the weird egg.

Why is it that colour? What if something is wrong with the whole hatching?
