seungkwan inhales slowly; the scent of freshly peeled granny smith apples wafts through the air, accompanying the soft, almost nonexistent buttery aroma of dough. he smiles while holding back a laugh, looking over to his left and seeing seokmin rolling out sticky pie dough with an abundance of flour coating the front of his apron and barely any on his work surface. "here," seungkwan says quietly, reaching over seokmin for the jar of flour and grabbing a pinch to sprinkle on the wooden counter. seokmin hums and thanks seungkwan with a peck on the cheek, sporting a sun-rivaling grin as he goes back to rolling. seungkwan returns to his task as well, peeling the apples and placing them in a bowl while they await cutting—though he does now have a soft blush to match the color of his hair.
it's early, so early that their colleagues haven't arrived yet; the bakery empty and dark outside of the kitchen, just like it is every day. seungkwan would rather be at home, comfy and warm in his bed with seokmin by his side—but this; seokmin's absent minded humming, the birds tweeting just outside of the windows and the quiet inside, only interrupted by the occasional creak of the oven door opening or the knife against the cutting board... this is the only thing that could come close to rivaling a day in bed.
the front door's bell rings suddenly, signaling the manager's entrance most likely, but the ringing persists even after seungkwan hears the door close. it becomes louder, louder, louder ...
seungkwan wakes up, vision blurry, and registers that he's actually in bed—seokmin's arms are wrapped around him, and the blinds reveal strips of that early morning greenish-blue he's so used to seeing. he sighs once his eyes clear up enough to see that the clock's neon blue numbers read five forty-five in the morning while the alarm continues to buzz, seokmin somehow still asleep through it all.
he dreamt about being at work, and now he has to actually go there...again, technically.
seungkwan loves working at the bakery—seokmin does too, but... work could only come close to surpassing lying in bed, not actually beat it. and after having a dream where he was already there, skipping the fuss of getting up, freshening up, getting dressed, driving, then finally walking through those stained glass doors... needless to say seungkwan doesn't feel like doing any of it.
he stretches before finally turning the alarm off, and tries to pry himself from seokmin's relaxed grip.
seungkwan successfully manages to get an arm off of his waist, begrudgingly push his blanket off, and set a single foot on the floor before two arms pull him back into that cozy warmth.
"where are you going?" seokmin says, all groggy and croaky and adorably grumpy; seungkwan almost doesn't have the heart to tell him 'we unfortunately have to go to work' when he sounds like that, but he tells him anyway.
"we have to get ready." seungkwan groans as he attempts to get up again, but seokmin tuts, tightening his hold on seungkwan's middle. "it's valentine's day!" the older exclaims as best he could with the temporary damage to his voice, but seungkwan just replied with, "...we still have to go to work though?" his tone made it sound like a question, wary of where seokmin was going with this.
"i asked seungcheol hyung if we could take today off a few days ago." he nearly giggled as he spoke, patting down seungkwan's coral-pink tumbleweed of hair and pulling him closer, as if possible. "he also promised not to bother us for the entire day."
"oh."
that was all seungkwan said, processing the fact that they have a break.
breaks don't happen as often as they should, mainly because the work is enjoyable and all the couple's closest friends work in the same bakery. being surrounded by your second family and making pastries all day with the sweetest customers and the sweetest smells isn't something seungkwan and seokmin have subconsciously wanted a break from in particular, it's more of the desire to be alone together; to exist in their own little world even for a small amount of time— it's something that seungkwan feels they haven't done in forever. on this day, valentine's day, the day made to celebrate love and affection is where seokmin surprises him with a day all to themselves? it almost brings tears to seungkwan's eyes the more he thinks about it.
