Week 15:
When Mia Turns Seven
~ June 4th - June 10th, 2012 ~***MONDAY MORNING***
I hurried out of my en suite to answer my phone that was ringing. I set a specific ringtone for my debonair boyfriend. "Hey, hi," I said breathlessly as I got to my phone on probably the last ring.
"Well, hi, babe. Good morning. You still in bed?"
I chuckled softly, pressing the phone between my ear and my shoulder. I sat down on my bed then, buttoning up my uniform shirt. "No, I'm actually headed to work," I answered him honestly.
"I thought we were going car shopping today."
I just knew there was a frown on his face. "I said maybe," I pointed out. "And even so, Mister Gazillionaire, I have to work. Miss Lulu is training me to take over managing and co-owning a diner or two! This is a big deal, Elijah."
"I understand that, Blake. I want you to be happy and if this makes you happy, I'm all for it. But it's a new location right, further away, you need a car to get there. A reliable one."
"My car is fine," I quipped. "It's not a priority."
"You have a bad muffler for starters. Your brakes are starting to squeal. And the car is older than you, the paint is rusting," he argued.
"I'm working on new brakes," I sighed. "I don't need you to stress me out first thing in the morning, Elijah."
"I'm trying to take all your stress away. Forget the brakes. Let's get you that Jeep."
"Maybe," I snapped. "I have to get to work. I don't want to pressured into this decision. Who knows if I even still want a Jeep. Just let me think about all this. Okay? I'm still processing that you... are... what you are."
"Okay," he sighed deeply. "I'm sorry. Have a good day at work then."
Before I could apologize, he hung up. I groaned in frustration, tossing my phone to the side. We had such a good day yesterday with the girls and he kissed me goodnight. He didn't mention the car thing again. But I had to work today, the next few mornings with Lulu so she could train me personally.
"Mommy, I'm done eating. Ready for school," Mia said, entering my room without knocking. I smiled at her, nodding. "You ready?"
"I just need my shoes, baby girl," I answered. Mia ran to my closet in hurry to fetch them for me. I think she was just glad I was able to take her to school for once. Now that I was out of school myself. "Thank you."
Once my shoes were on, I took Mia by the hand and we walked through the house, saying goodbye to my mother. "Oh, Danny's coming over for dinner," my mom said.
I paused then, "Why?" The last I saw him was Friday. Two days after we had an awkward conversation about not exploring more than friendship.
"I told him about your promotion," she smiled at me, "He's bringing champagne."
I couldn't help but grin myself. Now that was thoughtful, "I'll be home sometime between 4 and 6. Whenever Lulu is done with me. So wait for me to get home?"
