❝ Long before the Nara period was a goddess whose hair flowed endlessly with blessed water, skin that glowed like the shining rays of the endless horizon, and whose divine touch could bring life from ashes. Anywhere She stepped, roots took hold and vines sprouted from the ground with blossoming flowers.

According to ancient scriptures, She was 𝑨𝒐𝒌𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂.

One day, Aokigahara met a cruel, sinister god whose greed overflowed the brim of His sharp crown. He was the King of everything rotten in the world. In seek of a game, He challenged Her, vowing that if She could somehow make His lifeless heart beat again, He promised Her a piece of His land where She could thrive separately from the cruel world He reigned over. However, should She fail, He'd keep Her locked away where only He can enjoy Her for all Her immortality allows.

His name was lost to time, but their story lived on as a symbol of ability and love. She knew She didn't need his protection of the world, and could have immediately fixed His heart, but She knew He was more than capable of mending it on His own. She knew how badly He wanted to be fixed, though She wanted to show him the fruits of one's labor. It was the beauty of life.

She agreed with a graceful smile and used the wonders of life to restore Him. She provided Him with Her cleansing streams of hair, and He washed Himself clean. Some say She sang to open His ears, but I know they sat in silence as Mother Nature rekindled reasoning in His senses.

And last of all, allowing Him to open His eyes and receive the will to see. She took Him to the highest top of the mountain known for its crescent shape and watched the horizon slowly fade away. Just before the sun hid behind the edge of the horizon, its last ray of sunshine fell on her sparkling flesh, illuminating the world. The Second Sun. The glowing star atop the mountain, which later became a tradition for the decorative star at the top of the Christmas tree.

The King stared at Her longingly and whispered, 'I see you.'

He saw it all, the wonders and beauty of His world He never saw before. To see all that He owned in a different light, a new light. They shared a kiss before the dawn, and as the sun had set completely, so did His heartless ways.

The King's morbid subjects retaliated against their ruler they once called King. The god watched the cruel world He once ruled, destroy any sign of life until Aokigahara was the last in existence. To protect Her, He carried her off the summit of the mountain and to its base, where an open field surrounded by the crescent mountain was safe.

There wasn't much time before the curses found Her. The King panicked and begged for forgiveness, only to be quietly embraced by the shrinking Aokighara. As He sobbed, She turned into a tiny seed within His arms.

The rotten beings swarmed toward the lovers, ready to smite them. In His final moments, the King buried the seed and used His tears to hydrate the soil. Before the curses could reach Her, the King ripped out His own Heart, ending His own life and seemingly the existence of all curses, who had vanished in thin air.

After the massacre from the curses, it felt impossible for the world to heal. But Aokigahara, the last ounce of life in the forsaken world, sprouted from that tiny seed and picked up the King's beating heart as She continued to reach for the sky. She was the largest tree the world had ever seen. She replenished the Earth until it was completely covered in green again, and remained as a legendary tree with a heartbeat, it was said she is the Earth's heart, a gift of life.

Then came the Heian Era: The Golden Age of Jujutsu. Aokigahara became known as a sacred forest with a thriving civilization built on Her principles of peaceful nature and wise teachings. They were known as Ikigai, delicate villagers who worshiped Aokigahara and lived within the shade of her massive leaves. The Ikigai were known as keepers of knowledge and peacemakers.
