At first, it was a normal day with your s/o. At least you thought so.
After all, what could a person expect when their lover suddenly invites them to somewhere private?
You thought they were just being playful. You two had just gone on a date, a warm romantic candle lit dinner. Something that had always mesmerized you was their eyes. How you could drown in them. How you'd dream of swimming in them.
And maybe they were planning something... special. Oh how wrong you were.
It was still special, don't get them wrong.
But it wasn't as romantic as you had hoped. With a knife, carving a heart right into your figure. Those arms that used to hold you so dearly were the same pair that were now trapping you in this torture.
They still looked at you with those affectionate eyes, still full of pure adoration. And you... could do nothing but slump back into their arms.
"I'm sorry darling... we'll meet again in another universe. In there, we'll get married, have children, grow older. It'll be our happily ever after"
In a desperate attempt... you caught back the urge to cough. You were starting to feel weak. You legs were like sticks in the wind, you arms cold as ice, everything was numb... except for their touch.
You tried to blink away those desperate tears. Everything was so confusing. In an hour they were laughing and on a date, so why were they doing this? What went wrong?
You tried to plead. But only a question came.
"What's... what's stopping us in this universe...?"How those eyes made you swoon even on the brink of death. They gazed at you as if your face made the moon ashamed, your hair made out of the dust of stars, your scent like the ocean laughing. If it weren't for the stinging pain, it would've been romantic.
"So many things love... but it's over for you. I won't let anything hurt you..."
A protest bubbled in your throat. But wasn't this hurting you? Wasn't this bringing you more pain? What do they mean? Why does it have to come to this? Why couldn't they just work it out together? Yet not a single word flew out.
"It's alright now, close your eyes love... it's just like sleeping."
"I'll hold you just like those nights ago..."
It was only yesterday when you two were cuddling on the couch. Stroking each others hair, holding each other in a way that would make the sun and the moon jealous. It seemed like those nights were so far away now.
You tried. You tried keeping your eyes open. You tried suppressing the overwhelming pain. But it was too much. It was nothing but a hopeless fight. Silent tears fell.
The pain was too much. Blood was everywhere. Breathing started to seem like an impossible task. You wanted to beg. Beg for answers. Beg for a second chance. Beg that you weren't ready to go.
They held you ever so closely. As if it were just another night in which you'd wake up again. Everything was so cold. Except for them...
But it was too late. Those arms that brought you comfort still offered the same, yet now filled with your own blood. You couldn't help but feel conflicted. You wanted them to let go, to let you be free and get a desperate attempt at getting help. Yet at the same time, you wanted nothing more than to stay in their arms.
Something both you and them will never understand. Was that, you still loved them. Don't you? Even if they took your last breath, your love was undying. Even now as they held you in your final moments, you couldn't help but adore the warmth they gave. Like they said, maybe they'd get a happy ending in another
But this is your happy ending. Isn't it?
