in a small town in new jersey called galloway, nez barrett and drew barrett give birth to a beautiful baby named janesa jiada barrett on august 6, 2002. janesa grew up with her two brothers julian and tommy, both younger than her. janesa didnt like her name, she thought it was different and she didnt like being different.
in 3rd grade, she started to go by nessa and not janesa. during middle school (8th grade) nessa started to struggle with making friends. she started getting depressed and ate lunch in the bathroom and was not doing well in school. soon, sophomore year comes and nessa starts struggling with ED and ADHD. she never had anyone to talk about it because she never socialized with her teachers or classmates, her brothers started getting super distant with her, and her parents would always be at work.
but now present day, nessa is 19 going to college. nessas dream was to go to UCLA and she got in. she was excited to leave the town of galloway that she hated all her life to go to her dream place of los angeles. her dad was a producer for a band and quit a couple years ago, so nessa has always wanted to be a singer since she was a baby. she has loved the idea of music for a long time. her parents drop her off at the airport and she gets on her flight. the flight attendants gave out food, but she didnt want to eat because her ED was acting up. nessa got her airpods in her ears and starting playing "Super Rich Kids" by Frank Ocean. nessa looks out her window bored and remembers she brought something. she grabbed her diary and started writing.
