It was a typical Thursday morning, and I was rushing to class after the first bell. Everything was going smoothly until the second period when I saw her. Suddenly, my legs became wobbly, and my palms were clammy, and I had a terrible flashback.
"A-A-A-Andrew O-O-O Olsen"- she imitated my voice and laughed.
Back in primary school, I used to stutter so much that I couldn't even say my name. That's why the Crazy Eights picked on me, and she was one of those bullies. They would typically chase me around and sing the Chia Pet song. I couldn't fight back or do anything to them. There were eight of them, and I was all alone, sweating, screaming, with tears streaming down my face. Even after school, they never stopped picking on me. They kept calling my home phone until my mom picked up and yelled at them. The day after that, I changed schools, and I've never seen them again.Samantha.
"Hey? AJ?"- Emily's tap pulls me out of terrible memories.
"It's already time, why are you standing here? Did something happen?" - She looked at me, wondering why I'm standing in the hallway like a statue.
Emily is my best friend. At the start of the year, Emily found me eating alone in the corner so she joined me, and after that, we became friends.
"Nothing,"- I denied
"Are you going to sing today? In our club?" - Emily changed the subject.
"Of course, can't wait until lunch"
After the third bell rang, I sprinted to the theater.
"Hey AJ"
"Hey guys"
"What are you guys waiting for? Let's go" my voice fills with excitement. We went downstairs to the stage through a dark grey hallway with dim lights. I pulled out the key and quickly unlocked the door. The room in front of me was filled with colorful scrap papers and stools, and had a small stage at the front. I breathed in the familiar musty smell and walked through the room. As we were settling down, we heard a knock at the door. Emily swiftly went to open it, and a girl outside said something, but Emily didn't reply. When Emily turned around, she made a face. I put my guitar down on the stage and headed to the door. I thought it might be some teachers who found out about this place and came to shut us down, or Mr. B, who usually didn't come at this time. But it turned out to be worse.Samantha...?
"What are you doing here?" - I was in shocked
"I'm Sam-"
"I know who you are, Samantha" I cut in impatiently. Her gaze fixed on my face like she just met me for the first time.
I know you more than who you are.
"I'm sorry.." "She apologized and took a step back, as if I was the one who bullied her. Emily gave me a thick braided cord, which I put over my head. I noticed Samantha looking at the key, and I was completely convinced that the Crazy Eights had recruited her for this.
" "How did you find this room"
"My friend..." She said, gesturing behind her. I glanced over her shoulder but saw nothing. Is she trying to play some trick on me? I quickly turn back.
"Your friend what?"
She whimpered something about this place changing her whole life. At first, I thought it was ridiculous. This place is only for people who need help expressing their feelings without being judged. It's not for those who enjoy laughing at others or spending their day gossiping about meaningless things. However, Samantha seems sincere in her need for help, so I decided to give her a chance to explore this corner.
"Fine"-I said
" You can stay today, this one time, but that's it. After this, you have to forget all about this place, got it? One time, Samantha" - I quickly add in."Got it." she said. Then she added, "And it's Sam"
I frowned. "Fine. But it's not like this makes us friends or anything"
She looked at me." Why would I think we're friends? I don't even know you."
It shocked me. She doesn't know me? After what she had done to me? Ridiculous. I shouldn't have given her a chance.
"No" I chuckled. "Of course, you don't know me" I walked back into the room, shaking my head. Mostly because of disappointment, and I don't even know why.Sam...
