Chapter 1

HER pov

I have no control over my tears as he filled my hair partition with vermillion. Realization hit hard as reality sinked in my mind. I was a married woman.

Flashback

"No way Abbu" I shouted. I was enjoying my semester leave from college when my father dropped the biggest bomb on my life- he wanted me to get married to a complete stranger in 2 days. "I don't want to get you married when you are not willing to, But you have to understand, Bache.  you know that the Vikarshatas are powerful and dangerous. The can go to any extent to get what they want and now they want you" he said. I knew about them. The Vikarshta Family became our rival after that incident. My brother disappeared, and only I know why. And I know my brother is not capable doing something heinous li- my thoughts get interrupted as my father adds silently, "Please, Begum". He knows I won't disagree of he calls me by my mother's name. My father had endured so much for me. He went against his family to give me a good life. He made sure got schooling thought women of our family don't get educated. He let me go to Delhi for studying MBBS, though women of our family weren't allowed to even step out of the house. When Abbu saw me off at the railway station , he told me why they allowed me to get education- so that I can get a job and ,move out of this house. He and Veer Akhi used to feel really sad whenever someone insulted me there. Now if Abbu is asking me to quit studying and get married, that to a man whose family we have enmity with, Then there must be a strong reason behind it. So I agreed.

Amarthini, Hirayeth, Vikarshata are the names of three places which was named after the dynasty it was ruled by. Then came the British who snatched the rule from the kings. After British rule ended,  Amarthini, Hirayeth, Vikarshata was taken back by the respective successors of the kings who ruled the place before being captured. These places did not come come under government and is being ruled independently.
