SPENCER had been acting weird since his arm went numb. Everybody noticed. His quiet, cold demeanor filled every room he entered. The fear of further damage to his arm terrified him to a point of isolating himself from most of the world, confining himself to the bedroom in the Baker's Beverly Hills residence that was labeled as his. He didn't want to talk about it with anyone, not even his caring mother Grace James.
Nobody knew this of course, except Olivia Baker. The one who was there to witness it happen. He made her promise to not mention this to her father, and she reluctantly agreed. She worried about his arm, and the long term consequence's of his injury, but ignored it per Spencer's wishes. Spencer was her best friend, and she wouldn't do anything to jeopardize his place in her life.
She noticed his distance the most. She spent most of her days with him, and observed the growing distance between them. With Layla gone while touring with Patience and Asher gone on his annual family trips, Spencer and Olivia found themselves depending on each other more and more. They enjoyed each others company, more then either of them wanted to admit. But it was strictly platonic and they both knew that.
Olivia was with Asher, and she cared about him. They got together at the end of their junior year, and had been inseparable since. It was only when Asher announced that he and his mom were going to Mexico for the summer that Olivia decided to step back. She had the opportunity to go with them, spend time with her boyfriend and his mother, but instead she chose to spend her summer with Spencer.
Everyone knew about how complicated Spencer and Laylas situation was. Their on and off situation since the beginning of junior year had been on everybody's mind. Spencer wanted to give Layla her space, and Layla hesitantly agreed. He promised to wait for her, and Layla was ready. The only obstacle being their distance. She didn't want to intrude on his space, so she kept her longing for Spencer to herself. Layla checked in on him, calling from time to time, but nothing more than "How are you doing" and "How is your summer so far."
Despite that, Olivia and Spencer both found comfort in each other's company. Their movie nights brought each other a sense of relief from the stress they were both facing. Unbeknownst to anybody, Olivia had been struggling. She craved alcohol, and was seconds away from relapsing if not for Spencer James. He saved her in that moment, and she wanted to return the favor.
Spencer had spent all day at physical therapy, and was feeling worse than ever. His frustrations came from the feeling that his rehabilitation wasn't working correctly. He tried and tried, even taking advice from the therapist who he felt couldn't tell his head from his own ass. But every time he tried to use his arm, it fell flat. The arm went numb and it just didn't work the same.
Approaching the Baker house, he unlocked the door and saw nothing. The lights were off, which was weird considering before he left Olivia Baker had been on the couch watching "Love Island".
"Liv?" He called out with no response. As he turned on the light and approached the living room, he was surprised by the 5'6 curly haired woman standing in front of him with a box of CD's. As he looked past her, he noticed the bag of his favorite restaurant "The Hangout" sitting in the back. "What do you think" she smiled. She had a radiant and infectious smile, you just couldn't be sad around Olivia Baker.
"You did this all for me?" He questioned. His eyes went soft looking into hers. He couldn't believe she did this for him. She knew him, and knew him pulling away wasn't normal. He couldn't express his gratitude enough, and in the moment pulled her into a tight hug, wrapping his arms around her gently. At first, she hesitated, feeling her heart beat faster as he wrapped his arms around her. But she soon hugged back, feeling herself relax more and more.
They spent that night watching movies, and fell asleep on each other. It wasn't until Spencer James heard a loud knock at the front door that he woke up from his sleep. He woke up to Olivia lying next to him, her sleeping peacefully on his shoulder. He slightly moved her from his shoulder to the side of the couch, not wanting to wake her up. He thought a lot about what happened last night, and how he felt himself relax more and more with Olivia near him. He didn't know how to describe it, but he felt incredibly close to her.
He hurried to the door, questioning who would be at the Bakers residence this early at 8 am? Opening the door, his eyes widened in disbelief.
"Layla?"
