The original version of this story began shortly after the premiere of Hazbin Hotel's Pilot episode in 2019. At the time, we had limited character backgrounds and lore to reference. Nearly five years later, we've finally gotten a series, and so much has been revealed! Naturally, elements of the canonical series and the characters have changed since 'Imaginary' began. Therefore, I've restructured each chapter to address loose ends, assist with flow, and ensure the characters are more true to themselves. The structure and plot are essentially the same, but far more descriptive detail has been added. I've altered a few aspects that needed updating based on what's been recently revealed from the series and also from gained life experience over the years. Hopefully, the changes will reflect positively! The story still takes place after Alastor joins the team, but it's before the recent series finale. Thank you to all of you who have stuck around from the beginning! You're the real ones.

Author's Note:
This version of Alastor will be as close to canon as possible with an exploration into sex-positive asexuality - more specifically, demisexuality along with aromanticism. I understand that this is a sensitive subject within the Hazbin fandom. If you're uncomfortable with sex-positive asexuals (FYI: asexuality is a spectrum), this might not be the story for you. That said, I want to assure all readers that I have written 'Imaginary' with as much care and mindfulness as I can while still practicing artistic freedom. In fact, I myself am on the spectrum. Additionally, I have received invaluable insight and perspective from my asexual and aromantic community to help guide my writing as the plot has progressed. No one's experience is the same, so please keep that in mind as you continue to read this unhinged piece of literature.

Agony. No other term could capture the intensity of what unfolded during your descent into the foreboding unknown. Moments before your world unraveled, unaware of the impending danger, you casually strolled through the aisles of your local thrift store, seeking something worthwhile. Then, fate led you to an old, retro remote control from the 1950s-a curiosity too enticing to resist.

Upon picking up the remote and pressing a button, a transformative force seized you. A radiant light engulfed your senses as you found yourself drawn into a vortex of swirling colors and shapes. In the blink of an eye, you were thrust into an expansive, uncharted void, your body feeling as though it had been torn asunder and haphazardly reassembled with each passing moment. It was a visceral, merciless sensation, an ordeal unlike any you had ever encountered and never wished to endure again.

After what felt like an eternity, you descended from the emptiness of space, your body sprawled across a rigid surface. Your head weighed heavy, and tremors coursed through your body from the shock of the experience.

With cautious curiosity, you extended your arms to explore your surroundings, hesitant to open your eyes and confront this unfamiliar environment. Your hand hovered in the air until your palms met a solid surface, confirming your presence on stable ground.

It was difficult to decipher the noises around you considering the overwhelming ringing in your ears. Listening intently, you could ascertain a clamoring of hisses and whispers staggered around you. Strangely, the thought of that brought you a modicum of comfort. At least you weren't dying alone... if that was really what was happening.
