" Katerina , wake up , Katerina ! " a voice whispered urgently in my ear .

I rubbed my eyes and yawned quietly . I sat up straight when I saw a figure looming over me . My heart pounded as I tried to see through the darkness . " Papa ? " I asked , feeling slightly confused .

" Get ready , we're leaving now " Papa said harshly and pulled me off the bed . I stumbled and landed on the floor . Pain shot through me as tears burned my eyes .

" Hush ! Katerina , I will not tolerate this behavior . " Papa said coldly .

I cried even louder at the tone of his voice . Papa sighed and sat on the edge of the bed , he pulled me onto his lap .

" My darling Katerina , we really need to go . The bad guys are going to come and take papa away , Do you want them to take me away ? " Papa asked softly , stroking my hair as he spoke .

I shook my head with all my might , wanting papa to see how much I cared .

" Good , good . Do you want to play a little game , Katerina ? " Papa asked good-naturedly .

" Can I ? " I asked in an excited and squeaky voice .

" Let's see who is the fastest , you or your brother . " Papa smiled at me .

I took the life sized bear that was on the bed and slipped on my shoes . I was ready to go . There was nothing left in this room that I treasured more than this . Everything in this room can be replaced except for this sandy brown haired bear . This bear was my birthday present when I was five years old and it held more than sentimental value , it held hope . Hope that our family can settle down in one place long enough to call it home . Hope that our family can return to normality .

I tugged at Papa's hand and pulled him up from the bed . I was so excited when I thought I won , I was that competitive .

Disappointment filled within me as I saw my brother and Mama waiting at the door . I cradled the bear as I climbed into the waiting vehicle . Then we set off , to a new place , to a new start , so people won't know us , won't raise their guard . I looked back at the house that I never truly called my home .

*************************************

It was just a day after my fifth birthday . Papa and mama told us that we were going on an adventure . We packed our bags and left , just like that . It was easy , it used to be easy . But as I slowly grew up , I started noticing that other children was going to school yet I was taught by my mama . It was their laughter that demanded my attention . It was care free and well , just fun you see . They didn't know the cruel reality of life and just had fun . I never knew that privilege . Since young , Papa trained me in combats and let me learn the art of Taekwondo and Karate . While other children my age were competing who could write the fastest , me and my brother were competing who could strike the fastest . We would both have a chance at winning . He , based on his strength and build and I , based on my speed and flexibility .

While our Papa was teaching us how to fight , our Mama taught us how to observe others . Since eight years old , I was burdened with the knowledge of knowing too much . While others saw the smile on their faces , I saw the tight jaw and cold eyes . But now , I'm all grown up and observation proved useful .

It was easy to manipulate what others are feeling . And in my job description , I need that desperately .

What is my job , you may ask . Well , I like to think myself as a professional . Thief , of course . I take after my parents .
