Bloodlust

For the past one week, you've been going home to your apartment with the sensation of being watched. At night when you're sitting on your couch or laying on your bed, you get the feeling that you're not truly alone.

Someone is watching you. Always watching you.

You're not sure when this started happening. Perhaps it was after a drunken night out with friends at a famous club in town and you were walking home alone at 2 am. Girls shouldn't be out this late at night alone, but the last train was long gone and you had no one to escort you home. Perhaps that's when you caught his eye.

Your heart palpitates, your breaths turn heavy. Everytime you see that same dark shadow flickering under streetlights or outside your window, you're almost anticipating the inevitable encounter with this relentless stranger. From the outlines of the silhouette, you could tell your stalker was a tall, well-built man. However, something in your soul tells you that he was no ordinary human.

He only appears at night. When daytime submits to nightfall, that's when you begin to anticipate his lurking presence.

You've caught a glimpse of his features before — one night while you were pretending to be asleep. He had so effortlessly opened your secured window that you questioned if you had truly locked it, and entered your bedroom as silent as a phantom.

This was the first giveaway that told you he wasn't possibly human. You live on the 20th floor of a high-rise apartment. How could someone possibly climb all the way up and unlock the windows to your unit like he did?

Even with your eyes closed, you could feel his presence stalking around your room and approaching your bed where you lay. You dared yourself to peer your eyelids open by just the slightest centimeter, and finally got a visual of the uninvited stranger.

What you weren't expecting though, was for him to look so strikingly handsome that you had to control yourself from blowing your eyes wide open. Even in the dark, you could tell he was attractive. His disheveled hair was the color of ashen nightshade flowers. Twilight blue and celestial pink eyes glowed dangerously in the dark, a contrast to his deathly pale skin. He's wearing a full-black outfit, some sort of black skin-tight clothing with a robe.

The second giveaway that made you doubt his humanity? The sharp fangs that protruded from his teeth.

You felt fear, anxiety, and a disconcerting tinge of excitement. You didn't know why you felt this way, and you think that something must be wrong with you. Perhaps this was a misattribution of arousal – a psychological phenomenon where people mistakenly attribute their arousal or fear to the wrong stimulus, leading to irrational feelings of attraction.

Was it attraction, though?

You weren't sure if you'd be more scared of an actual human man entering your apartment, or a supernatural entity. At least supernatural beings like ghosts can't actually physically hurt you, right?

Watching you sleep from a distance was the extent of what he did for a few days, until one night he became bolder and walked right next to you. You were pretending to sleep again, steadying your breath and staying as frozen still as possible. This time, he decided to hover directly above you. When you feel his face shifting close to your neck, you don't feel any breath or body heat. In fact, a chill was what crawled across your neck, causing the hairs on your body to stand straight up. You pray he doesn't notice.
