Jack Ross is a twenty-five-year-old law major who owns his law practice in New York City late one evening it was raining hard so he got home later than usual it was almost nine-thirty when he walked into his house. Where he saw a girl on her knees by his door. She looked up with her teary eyes. H-H-Hello Neighbour! C-c-could I please stay at your place? T-t-tonight? I g-got kicked out b-by the l-landlord. As she struggles to speak, shaking from the cold. Jack looks at her to ask the reason she was kicked out so she replies to him "I-I-I've been struggling to pay rent lately... and I guess it finally caught up with me... I can sleep on the couch if you want!" he looks into her eyes "Did he give you a thirty-day notice by law he needs to." N-N-No. But I'm used to moving around. I've had to do it so much during my life... I'm sorry, I don't want to cause any trouble." he got mad hearing that "We can sue him as he broke the law." He looked at him and sighed "I-I-I don't have enough money for a lawyer.... I guess I can just sleep on the street for now."

he smiled at her "Well lucky for you I am a lawyer with my my very own law practice. And I will do it to help you and I have a spare room you can sleep in." she looks at him with teary eyes "T-T-That's so nice of you! I'll do anything to repay you, I promise! And I'm so thankful for the spare room... I don't want to be a burden though." she just looks down. He lifted her head and smiled at her "You won't be a burden. So did he keep all your stuff?" she sighed and nodded "Yes. Everything I own is inside that apartment... I just grabbed what I could when the landlord kicked me out." he got mad so he grabbed his phone and called her landlord explaining who he was and what laws he had violated then he hung up and went to get all her properties. She sits in the corner of the room, shivering from the cold. When she sees Jack returning with her things, a sense of relief washes over her. She stood up and hugged Jack tightly. He hugged her back and smiled. "Get change out of those wet clothes." she pulls away and grabs a set of clothes from the bag Jack gave her. She walked upstairs into the bathroom to change out of her wet clothes. After a few minutes, she comes back downstairs wearing warm and dry clothes. When Jack saw her he blushed and smiled. "So are you hungry?"

she nods shyly. "I-I haven't eaten since yesterday. I'm very hungry thank you." he looked at her "Want pizza as I ordered pizza tonight." she smiled widely As she looked at him smiling "Pizza sounds Wonderful! Thank you so much, neighbour." He smiled back "I'm not your neighbour anymore! I am now your roommate." she gasped. "Oh my, we're roommates now? I have so much to learn about you, I barely know anything! But that's nice, I don't want to be alone." he smiled at her "Well I mean you are in my house staying in my spare room I use for guests." She smiled at him "Oh. Right. I guess that makes sense. But thank you for letting me stay here, you don't know how much it means to me." he smiled back at her "So I didn't ask you your name." She blushes slightly. "Oh right, I never introduced myself! I'm Layla. And you are....?" he looks at her "My name is Jack nice to meet you." he winks at her her face goes bright red and she looks down. Nice to meet you too, Jack." he smiles at her. So now that is taken care of May I ask why you couldn't pay your rent?" Layla sighs. "I've been struggling to pay rent for a while now. My job doesn't pay me very well and I've been having some unexpected expenses. It all just adds up and before I knew it, I was already behind on rent."

Jack smiled at her. "Do you make minimum wage or something?" Layla nods "Yes, I work at a small grocery store. The pay isn't very good but it's enough for me to get by on my own. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to cover rent this month." Jack smiled at her "Well you can live here rent-free if you would like." She looks up, wide-eyed. Are you serious? That's very generous of you, Jack. But I can't just live here for free, I need to contribute somehow." Jack smiled at her "Can you cook." she nodded "I can cook basic meals, yes. Why do you ask?" Jack smiled at her "Well I'm Usually home late so if you can have dinner on the table that's what you can contribute." Her face lights up. That sounds like a wonderful idea! I'll make sure to have dinner ready for you when you get home from work. Thank you so much, Jack." He smiled at her You're welcome." She smiled and looked down. "But I don't want to take advantage of your generosity, Jack. Is there anything else I can do to repay you?" Jack looks at her smiling. "Isn't that enough?" She shrugs "It feels like I should do more. I don't want to feel like a burden, after everything you've done for me already."
