At 5:00pm on a regular sunny day, in a small house, a demon slayer by the name of Yoriichi Tsugikuni was saying goodbye to his wife before going on a mission.

His wife, Uta, was 9 months pregnant. She was expecting to give birth today later in the evening, so Yoriichi wants to get come back as soon as possible. 

He set off, running, to the location the demon was. It was kinda far away, so Yoriichi ran at full speed. He met up with his comrades, the water breathing user and the thunder breathing user. All three of them went to the location.

Back at Yoriichi's home, Uta was busy doing the house chores. As she was taking a break, she saw someone coming. She recognized the person as Sumiyoshi, a close friend of Yoriichi. Sumiyoshi called her name and asked how shes been. They talk for a while and Sumiyoshi also helps her with the remaining chores. Eventually, they lose track of time and it becomes evening. Uta feels a sudden pain in her stomach which can only mean one thing.

Sumiyoshi starts to panic. Yoriichi still hasn't arrived from his mission, which only makes Sumiyoshi panic more.
He calls his wife, which soon arrives. Sumiyoshi's wife helps Uta, while Sumiyoshi prepares the warm water and some food.

After a few long minutes, Uta successfully gives birth to a beautiful baby. She can imagine how happy Yoriichi would be when he comes back. Sumiyoshi and his wife feels relieved that everything went well. They bring a small futon for the baby, which was asleep.

Yoriichi was disappointed in himself. He had faced the demon king, Muzan kibutsuji. Though he was not able to decapitate him. Muzan had split himself into multiple tiny pieces, and was able to escape. Now Yoriichi was on his way back home.

As he was arriving, he could smell a faint scent of blood. He opened the door of his house and was shocked to see Uta dead. The demon who killed her left claw marks on the walls, and the glass on the doors were broken. Yoriichi could not believe this. He hugged Uta's corpse, not letting go.

The thunder breathing user came to see Yoriichi. He told Yoriichi that they should give Uta a proper burial, and so they did.

Yoriichi prayed for Uta a lot. He was in despair, and disappointed in himself for not being able to protect what he loves most. He lost everything, his family and brother. He questioned how this all happened and why.
To make matters worse, he was banned from the demon slayer corps for not being able to kill the demon king.

Yoriichi was in deep sorrow. He had lost all hope in life. He thought himself as a man with no worth.
He didn't know what to do now. So he decided to pay a visit to his friend, Sumiyoshi.

A few days after all the events happened, Yoriichi is on his way to Sumiyoshi's home.
He saw Sumiyoshi sitting on the porch, holding a small baby in his hands. Yoriichi approached him, and Sumiyoshi greeted him. Yoriichi sat next to him, and Sumiyoshi asked how he was doing.

Yoriichi explained what had happened, and Sumiyoshi felt bad for him.
The two talked for a while, until the baby that Sumiyoshi was holding was waking up.

Sumiyoshi went inside and put the baby in a small futon, Yoriichi watching him. Then, Yoriichi noticed something. Sumiyoshi had put the baby in a futon next to another small futon. "You have two kids?", Yoriichi asked.
Sumiyoshi went back and sat next to Yoriichi again. "No, I dont. It's just that the other baby is yours", replied Sumiyoshi, and smiled.

Yoriichi took a moment to process what Sumiyoshi had just said. He was now confused.
"I went to visit your wife in the afternoon. When it became evening, she gave birth. However, not long after, a demon attacked. My wife took the baby and ran to safety. I wanted to protect Uta...but I couldn't", Sumiyoshi explained. He felt guilty for not being able to save Uta from the demon.

Yoriichi was even more confused, but when he understood, he was shocked. Sumiyoshi motioned for Yoriichi to come inside, so he did.
Sumiyoshi led Yoriichi to the two sleeping infants. They were sleeping peacefully in their futons. Yoriichi smiled as he looked at his child. He really wished Uta was here.

Yoriichi stayed at Sumiyoshi's house for a few days. Though today he was going to leave.

He held his child, who was 5 days old now, in his arms. Yoriichi then placed the infant into the same futon. Yoriichi went outside, getting ready to leave. Sumiyoshi saw him and asked where he was going, but Yoriichi didn't tell him. Yoriichi walked up to Sumiyoshi, and gave him his hanafuda earings.

Sumiyoshi was confused at first, but soon realized that Yoriichi was never coming back. Sumiyoshi pleaded to Yoriichi to not leave, but Yoriichi already made his mind, even if he was never going to see his child again. He smiled and waved goodbye to Sumiyoshi for the last time before he left. Despite being banned from the demon slayer corps, he was still going to slay demons.

Sumiyoshi watched Yoriichi leave. He then yelled out to him, promising that he would pass down sun breathing.
