01 - Sixth Sense

Year 2015

A girl with high school uniform walked through the Seoul University Hospital's corridor. "Jihyeon-a, how's your day?" Some nurses greeted and asked her as they passed in the corridor. Walking through the corridor every single night has already been her routine since last year. Her dad's health has worsened and required intensive care since last year, so he needs to be hospitalized. And her after school routine becomes visiting her dad before her big brother picks her up to go home.

She took a deep breath before opening the door and greeted her parents. "Hi mom, dad." Mr. and Mrs. Lee smiled and greeted her back. "How's your day, honey?" Her dad asked.

"Same old same old." Mr. Lee chuckled as he heard her daughter's answer.

Her mom shook her head, then sighed, "Put your bag over there and wash your hands. Jihoon already sent dinner." Jihyeon nodded and followed as her mom's ordered. After washing her hands, she opened the box and looked happy that her brother sent tteokbokki and jjajangmyeon, her favorite dish.

After finishing her meal, Jihyeon talked to her dad about her day and her preparation for the exam that will be held next week. Shortly after, his big brother, Jihoon, came to pick her up.

"How's the company oppa?" She asked as they walked to the rooftop. Today was Friday, and every Friday, they will talk on the rooftop for a minute before they go home.

"You know Hyeon-ah... our company is not that good since dad is hospitalized. Hopefully, we can survive 'till we launch our new product." Jihyeon nodded. Somehow, she helped with all her can to their family company since she started high school. So she is aware of the company condition.

They just arrived at the rooftop when someone shouted that a patient fainted and needed help. Jihoon approached the patient and helped the patient, who just got cardiac arrest and gave him a cpr while waiting for the nurse.

Shorly after, the nurses come, and Jihyeon pulls Jihoon away. "Why, Jihyeon?" He asked. Jihyeon just shook her head, and then Jihoon realized Jihyeon just looked towards empty spaces not far from where they were standing.

"It's his time?" Jihoon asked. It's not his first time watching Jihyeon stare blankly.

Jihyeon nodded. She looked at the patient's soul that had already separated from the body, and then she looked to the one man and two women wearing all black. The man is wearing black gloves and one of the woman bring some thing that looks like a tablet. Jihyeon immediately averted her gaze as she noticed that the man maybe felt seen by her.

"Let's go home, oppa."

Lee Jihyeon, eldest daughter of Lee Minho and Park Seoyeon. She has an older brother named Lee Jihoon. Their family owns a company that operates in the electronics sector, called MS Electronics. She was just an ordinary girl until she witnessed her aunt's death 6 years ago.

Year 2009

Jihyeon was visiting her aunty after her piano lesson. Seoyeon, her mom, also asked her to comfort her aunty. Jihyeon entered the apartment without realizing that the door was unlocked. Then she heard a woman yelling, and Jihyeon knows that it's not her aunty voices.

"Aunty Mikyung?" Jihyeon caled as she walked towards her aunty's bathroom. Then she saw a man stand still in front of the bathroom, "Who are you?" Jihyeon asked. The man shocked like he caught red-handed. Jihyeon rushed to the bathroom and saw a woman calling her aunty's name while she tried to stop the bleeding on her aunty's hand.

"Aunty!!" Jihyeon screamed and suddenly felt dizzy. Her body fell and slowly lost her consciousness. She faintly heard footsteps and deep voices that said something, "Lee Mikyung, born 4:33 a.m., on October 18th, 1970. Death by suicide. The soul will be collected."

"Collected? The soul? What is this? Aunty Mikyung dead?" That was Jihyeon thought before she completely lost her consciousness.

When she woke up, her mom told her that she called 112, but they couldn't save her aunty. "Is that hallucination?" She thought.

After the doctor stated that Jihyeon was fine, she and her mom came to the funeral room. Jihyeon wants to give her respect for the last time.

After she gave her respect, she walked to her grandmother and hugged her. Give her the comfort she needs. Lee Mikyung was her grandmother favorite kid since she was the only daughter and the youngest in the family.

Days later, after the funeral, Jihyeon takes some day off from the school as she feels unwell, and she wants to accompany her grandmother, who is still grieving.

After dinner, Jihyeon accompanied her grandmother in her room with Jihoon.

Suddenly, Jihyeon got goosebumps and then heard weird sounds following by some footsteps. The same feeling was like the moment when she found her aunty in the bathroom.

"Looks like grandma wanna sleep. Let's go, Jihyeon." Jihyeon shook her head. "10 more minutes oppa," Jihoon nodded.

Suddenly, they heard that grandma take a deep breath before exhaling a long breath. "Grandma?" Jihoon called her. Jihyeon held her grandma's wrist and couldn't find a heartbeat there.

Then she noticed her grandma's soul already separated and heard a man voice. "Jung Hyejin, born 5:55 a.m., on December 1st, 1926. The soul will be collected." Jihyeon closed her eyes. Then she holds Jihoon's hand, "We should call mom and dad. Grandma is gone, oppa."

"What?!"

After her grandma funeral, Jihyeon collapsed and was hospitalized for a month. No one knows what happened with her. Until some psychiatric said that she was experiencing mild depression after watching the deaths of her family members by her own eyes.

Jihyeon walked around the hospital for hours and realized that she had walked towards the emergency room. It's quite hectic there because of the series of accidents on the toll road near the hospital. Then she saw some people who wore all black suddenly appear and walked to the emergency room. She followed a tall man who walked to the patients who had just died.

"Im Seongmin, born 4:15 a.m., on May 2nd, 1995. Death by car accident." Jihyeon feels dizzy as she heard the voice and feel familiar with it. Then she remembered that it was the same voice that she heard at her aunty's apartment and when her grandma passed away. Jihyeon was shocked and froze until the man walked through her together with the boy who called Im Seongmin who had just died minutes ago.

She turned her body and looked at the man. That man, who feels seen by someone, turns his body only to find Jihyeon collapsed and the nurses already surround her.

Since that moment, Jihyeon suddenly got the ability to see something that people called by 'grim reaper'. Especially since her grandfather got hospitalized after her grandmother's death, Jihyeon watched more of the scenes that the grim reaper said as 'collecting the soul'.

Jihyeon never told anyone about this until Jihoon got car incident and Jihyeon unconsciously said "It's not time for you to go yet, oppa" to her brother when he asked her why she feel happy when she take care of him after the incident. Jihyeon then tells him about the men in black that she believed as a 'grim reaper'. But, little she did know, it was just the beginning of the strange events she would experience later on.
