*Jack's pov*
"Hey Jacky," my mother said from through the phone.
"Hey mom what's up?" I responded.
"So I just got to my sister's house, and she wants me to stay a couple of extra days. Would that be okay with you sweetie? Will you be alright alone for that long?" She questioned.
I laughed a little, "mom you worry so much," I said with emphasis on the word 'so'. "I'll be fine. I promise, just have fun."
"Alright Jack. I love you. Be safe," she told me.
"I love you too mom. Bu-bye," I said, and hung up the phone, sliding it back into my pocket.
"Mom is going to be gone for a little while longer," I told Ashley.
She nodded but didn't respond. Her cheeks were a light shade of pink.
"You should probably go wash the food out of your hair," I told her, laughing.
She rolled her eyes at me. "You're an ass."
"You started it," I fired back. We always argued as if we were still five.
"So what you put it in my hair," she said.
"But you started it," I finished. She couldn't think of a comeback quick enough so she just remained quiet for a while.
She hoped down off the counter, and stood up, walking towards the bathroom. I hear the door open, then hear "you're still an ass," come from the hallway, a middle finger probably going along with it.
"You still started it," I yell soon after I hear the door shut.
Not long after, I hear the water turn on, knowing it's from the shower.
I slide my phone out of pocket, and go into my contacts, finding gilinsky's, and calling him.
The call went through four rings before I heard the voice of my best friend on the other end of the phone.
I didn't waist anytime once he asked what was up. I just jumped right into it.
"We almost kissed bro," I said a bit above a whisper, incase she could still hear me over the sound of the running water, or incase she turned it off soon.
"Woah woah woah woah woah what," gilinsky said, suddenly serious. "Are you kidding man?"
I sighed,"no."
"Well what the fuck do you mean almost?" He responded. "What happened?"
I began explaining the story to him, as he stayed quiet, listening to every detail.
"So your mom just ruined it?" He asked.
"Yeah basically," I told him.
"Did you want to kiss her?" He asked me, and then after I said yes, asked, "did she want to kiss you?"
I wasn't sure what to say, because I didn't even know. "I don't know man. I mean, probably not. She probably got caught up in the moment. It seemed like it though, so I don't know what to think G."
He paused for a moment, probably thinking about what to say to me. "Bro, I don't know. I don't want to tell you to talk to her and tell her how you feel if she doesn't feel the same, but I don't want to tell you to ignore it if she does like you, because then she could move on," he finally said.
I sighed knowing that he wouldn't really be able to help. I had been thinking the same exact thing from the second my mother started calling me, making the two of us separate.
"I know that man," I responded to G. "I just don't know what to do. She's my best friend and I really can't loose her.
"I don't know I can't help you there dude," he told me.
Gilinsky never really fell for anyone. I knew he wouldn't be able to help me out and relate, but we told each other everything. G had always been more of the type to 'hit it and quit it'. He was known at school as a player, but so was I.
I wasn't like Jack. Actually I was the complete opposite of him. I was just Ashley and I were the only people who knew that. I was a completely different person at school than I was at home. Ashely was the only one who knew the real me.
At school I was one of the bad boys, and the player, I guess you could say. At west side high you didn't fuck with the jacks and sammy. We weren't like bullies, more like bad asses. We were the kids who would go to parties, and drink, smoke weed, fuck every girl that looked our way.
At home on the other hand, I was different. Around Ashley I could be myself. I was a good kid. I got good grades. I did what my mother asked me to do, and I was kind of a nerd.
I wore contacts to school, while I wore glasses around the house. I wore jeans, and black, and leather at school, while I wore basketball shorts and whatever else I felt like at home. I was a total douche at school, while I was the sweetest person ever at home. If someone from school were to see me when I was at home, they wouldn't even realize I was the same person.
I don't like being so fake at school. I really wish I could just be myself. Jack pushes me to be that way a lot, and sometimes I really feel like just dropping him and being who I am, but I can't. Jack has been my best friend since kindergarten and I can't throw that away. I just wish I could be myself around him.
I eventually ended the call with Jack, after we talked for a while. Eventually I got bored, so I started up the Xbox and turned on whatever game had been in the system.
I was halfway through a level on some game Sammy left over here, when I heard Ashley calling me from the bathroom.
I ignored her the first time, continuing to play the game. When she called a second time, I paused it, getting up from the couch to go see what she wanted. I walked in the direction of the bathroom, and saw her in the hallway. She was standing in front of the bathroom door, wrapped in a towel.
Her cheeks where tinted red as I approached her. "Um, I left my bag in the living room," she spoke quietly.
I laughed a little. "So why am I here? Go get it," I said to her.
She rapidly shook her head. "I don't wanna walk all the way out there in a towel."
"But you called me over here. There isn't anyone else here so why does that matter?" I was confused because I would be the only one seeing her, and if she didn't want that she wouldn't have called me over there.
She looked at me with big eyes and pouted her lip out, and I gave in. It want really her little puppy dog face, I just didn't want to argue with her. I assumed she had a reason to not want to go out there, so I just respected that, and went out into the living room to get her bag for her so that she could put some clothes on.
I grabbed it and carried it back to where she was standing in the hall. She took it and walked back into the bathroom, giving me a cheeky smile before shutting the door.
