A/N:
This is only my second story on Wattpad, so I hope you all like it! Just to let you know, this might contain spoilers about the Harry Potter books/movies, so if you haven't read/seen them all, be warned.
I never thought it could happen on such a beautiful night. The sunset was absolutely astonishing, pink and orange clouds dancing across the sky. I picked Harry up out of his crib so we could admire it from the huge window in his nursery. Little did I know that it would be almost seventeen years before we saw another sunset together.
"Lily," James called, "could I have a word?" I placed young Harry back in his crib, gave him a gentle kiss on his forehead, and hurried down the stairs.
"Is everything al-," I stopped mid-sentence. In the living room, Dumbledore was perched elegantly on a chair, and, although he tried to cover it with a warm smile, I could sense that he wasn't here for tea. "Albus! What a pleasant surprise!" I exclaimed, determined not to jump to conclusions too quickly.
"The pleasure is mine, Lily. Tell me, how is the boy?"
"Harry? He's perfectly fine, why do you ask?" Dumbledore sighed, and I braced myself. His calm demeanor was starting to slip further and further away.
"He's coming. Tonight."
"Who's coming? Surely you can't mean..."
"Voldemort. He wants the boy ever so desperately, and will stop at nothing to kill him." I collapsed onto the sofa next to James. This could not truly be happening, not to me anyway. For the past few years, all that's been on the radio was bad news. Killings, disappearances, you name it. But I never imagined that I would be the victim.
"Is there anything that can be done to save him?" James asked. Dumbledore nodded.
"Yes, there is. However, it won't be easy for you. Or Lily, for that matter."
"Anything for my son,"
"Very well. The two of you will have to come with me. We've already arranged for you to stay at Severus's. I'll-"
"What about Harry? Where will he stay?" I inquired, finally finding my voice.
"Right here." I looked at Albus incredulously.
"Your kidding, right?" Everyone had been joking about it since I was a kid, but I think Dumbledore had finally lost his mind. Leave Harry here? The house barely had any protection, since we weren't expecting You-Know-Who for at least a month. And besides, everyone in town knew we lived here. All it would take is a drop of Veritaserum or a Cruciatus Curse to figure out our address in a minute! There was no way I was going along with this.
"Harry will be safe, Lily, I promise. I just need you to trust me."
"Safe? Do you expect me to leave my son here with the most dangerous dark wizard of all time while I go and party with Snape? You're out of your mind!"
"I understand your hesitation, but it's the only way. Harry will be safe, but we don't have much time. You need to make a decision fast."
"What will happen if I don't leave?" Albus was suddenly fascinated by the loose thread on his chair. "Albus! Look at me! What happens if I don't lea-"
"We all die."
