have a good day, ma'am.

WORKING FOR THE BAU WAS SOMETHING AMELIE VALENTINE HAD DREAMED OF.

But that was many years ago. Prior to all the things she had faced, the scars that were left on her body and in her mind.

After those five years in hell, the thought of placing foot in a world even similar made her shiver. The actual possibility of it not crossing her mind, if not twice a year during some crisis of faith, wondering if teaching was truly what she wanted.

But now it seemed like she didn't have the possibility of choosing anymore. Since Erin Strauss had called her and she had gently declined the offer, her life had been turned upside down.

Quite literally.

First, she got an email telling her that the BAU was going to pay the rent for the first three months of an apartment in Quantico, to which she answered by calling Strauss and canceling everything.

Then she got another call from the section chief, telling her to take the offer until it was open, but she turned it down again.

Lastly, she got fired, and that was her last straw.

Her black heels clicked on the cold floor of the BAU offices as she barged into the building, heading to Erin Strauss's office.

She could feel the blood pump in her veins so loudly that she could hardly hear the surrounding sounds. She had one target: reaching her office; anything else wasn't important, it fell in second place, her mind not even registering it.

That's why she failed to acknowledge the confused stares she was getting from almost every person in the building as she stormed past them, a trail of unbothered sorry leaving her lips when she bumped into someone.

She adjusted her bag when she finally found herself standing in front of the door she had been searching for. Her jaw clenched as she took a sharp breath, throwing wide the door, not bothering to knock.

The blonde woman looked up from her papers, startled by the noise, her eyes growing wide, seeing the fury on Amelie's face. "Good morning-" she was quickly stopped when Amelie slammed a piece of paper on her desk.

"What does this mean?" Amelie asked, venom lacing her voice. Her brown eyes burned on the Section Chief as she took the paper in her hands and read over it.

Recomposing herself, the older woman shrugged her shoulders, adjusting her blonde hair. "I think it says that you've been led down," she spoke calmly, ignoring the way she would've been dust on the ground if looks could kill.

The chair opposite her squealed, scraping on the floor as Amelie sat down. "You've crossed the line this time." She folded her hands on the desk, leaning forward. "I can accept calls, and even you renting an apartment for me despite me declining your offer." she paused, shaking her head, the glare in her eyes intensifying. "But getting me fired?" a scoff left her glossy lips.

"This is not going to make me accept your offer; I have enough money already." Amelie was about to stand up, taking back the note with her dismissal written on it, but just as she turned her back to Strauss, her voice stopped her.

"I believe that the social services don't appreciate a single woman without a stable work. " announced the woman, a tight-lipped smile on her lips, which Amelia saw when she cracked her neck to look at her. "and beside Agent Aaron Hotchner has already accepted your position."

Amelie jaw slackened in surprise, tilting her head. "What?" she squealed, walking closer to the desk once again. "I never accepted." She blinked a few times to understand what was happening. "You can't do that."

For Strauss's own good, she decided to ignore the way she brought up child services, focusing on how she had got her a job she hadn't even accepted instead.

Erin leaned back on her chair, sighing at the woman in front of her. "It's done; you start tomorrow." She opened another file that sat untouched on her desk, "The team needs someone with your kind of experience."

Amelie was at a loss for words; nothing similar had ever happened to her.

The older woman spared her a last glance, not bothering to fully lift her head. "Close the door on your way out, Agent Valentine."

Amelie bit her tongue, refraining from saying the words that were threatening to come out, aware that nothing was going to change Strauss's mind from past firsthand experience. "Of course, have a good day, ma'am." she snarled, walking out and slamming the door behind herself, not bothering to hide her anger as she barged through and out the building.
