"Fuck!" I yell out, completely forgetting where I am and who I'm surrounded by. And then I remember I couldn't care less because guess who just got her two-week fucking notice. This gal! "Alessia? You good girl?" My favorite co-worker and best friend since 8th grade asks me, giving me a painful side eye. Instead of telling the whole office my news, I simply shove the depressing email from our boss in her face. "Oh shit." She whisper mouths so only I can hear. "Yea no fucking shit oh shit."
She motions with her hands for me to follow her, and I do. We walk down a flight of stairs then remember that neither of us are fit enough for that and agree to take the elevator instead. We take the elevator all the way to the lobby of the lousy office and step outside and into her pink Volkswagen beetle in the parking lot. "Nikki what in the hell am I supposed to do! Roy is going to do a full backflip when I tell him I got FIRED!" And now I'm freaking out. "It's okay! We'll figure something out! Places are always hiring, maybe Roy doesn't even have to know that you got fired. Hm? Maybe you just got a better opportunity somewhere else?" As much as I love Nikki, I have no idea what comes out of her mouth sometimes.
"I can't lie to my boyfriend! It's wrong!" I exasperate, waving my hands around as if to further prove my point. Roy is my boyfriend of 4 years, we met at a business lecture in downtown New York City about 5 years go. We would be married by this time, but he and I agreed that the idea of marriage is just a piece of paper and is useless in the long run (totally not related to past events), so here we are 5 years later just casual. "It's not lying, it's hiding some pieces of incriminating evidence!" Nikki says as she shrugs her shoulders casually as if to say "no big deal." I groan audibly at the dark chocolate brunette in the driver's seat. "I am so fucking screwed." This is it. My mom told me I shouldn't have moved to New York, and she was right. "No, you're not, we got this! We are badass working women who are going to search and study jobs VIGORUSLY for the next two weeks. And when those two weeks are up? Hell, you are already going to be employed at a different place and loving life!" This is why I love Nikki. She's legit my platonic soulmate in every lifetime.
"Yea!" I say back, nodding my head in fake confidence. Fake it till you make it, I guess. "Now, we are going back into that rundown office building and what are we gonna do?! We're gonna work our asses off looking for new jobs!" Nikki yells at me, in an empowering yet kind of terrifying way. "What are we gonna do, Alessia?!" And now I'm yelling too, "We are gonna work our asses off looking for new jobs!" I repeat back to her, nodding my head in a "yea we got this" kind of way. Nikki raises her hand in a high five way, and I have no other option but to give her the goddamn high five. "Let's go!" Nikki yells one more time before getting out of the little beetle with me following suite.

"It's fucking freezing" is my first thought as I stand outside this dingy ass club with music so loud you can hear it three blocks down. Roy had called me saying that he was staying late at the office and told me that he wouldn't be home until 3-4 in the morning. So, I called Nikki up and dragged her ass to this club with me with one thing in mind. Getting lit as hell so I don't remember what a drag the day was. "Let's go inside, it's cold as a witches coochie out here!" Nik shivers and rushes toward the doors, I follow her inside.
