Like teenagers in a novel book

•••

Nagkita pa ulit kami no'ng sining...same pa kami ng team sa pagtakbo bilang SSC. I don't know why destiny keeps making the same mistake twice na? I see myself not being her friend pero parang pinagtutulakan siya sa akin ng tadhana. My gosh!

"Hala! Nagkita na naman tayo, xowie! Still remember me?" masaya niyang sambit.

Ano akala nito? May amnesia ako? E, ilang araw pa lang lumilipas no'ng huli naming kita.

"No, who are you again?" I sarcastiacally told her.

"Sining, iyon ang name ko. We met at the debate competion last last week!"

Patola naman ang isang 'to. Can't read the air.

"Ohh! Right."

Tapos hindi ko na siya pinansin pero siya itong daldal ng daldal pa rin sa akin habang naglalakad kami sa mahabang hallway ng building ng mga business major.

"Sining, I bet you know a lot of students here. Ang daldal mo kasi." sambit ko para naman hindi siya magmukhang stupid na nagsasalita sa walang may pake sa mga sinasabi niya.

"I have lots of friends kasi madaldal ako hahahaha!"

"Friends?"

"Yes! Of course! Sa daldalita kong ito, imposibleng wala nga?"

"Pffft! Do all the people you talk to—do you consider them your friends?" I asked her seriously.

"Oo naman...anong mali ro'n? Sa tingin ko lahat ng makikilala ko, by face or by names, I consider them as my friend."

"Kawawa ka naman pala."

"Paano naman ako naging kawawa no'n?" may pagka inosente sa tanong niyang iyon.

"Because not everyone you meet is your friend. A friend to all is a friend to none. That's friendly advice from me, an acquaintance...not a friend."

I gave her that tiny smile and a small pat at her left shoulder. She's nice, no doubt. But too nice and naive.

"That's your perspective, xowie. Try asking mine, what I see you as..." She said with that wide smile.

Napatigil kami sa paglalakad at tila walang nakapansin sa aming dalawa sa mga group members namin na huminto kami sa pagsunod sakanila.

"You see me as...what?" I asked.

"Ikaw 'yong tipong...a friend to none is a friend to all. So, it really doesn't matter to me if you see me as nothing like a friend; the important thing is that I see you as one. I'm a friend to all...sabi mo nga hahaha!"

"You should stop being one, sining. Friends can be your downfall someday. What type of friends do you have? Are they supportive of you, or are you supportive of them? Are they a giver, or are you the giver? Do they know you more than you know them? Are you sometimes the option or the first choice? Do they find you at the right time in the right place, or are you the one who keeps finding them at the right time in the right place?"
