The Old Guard

CH 1

Hell was oddly quiet, there were no explosions or screams sounding off. No screeching or the sound of iron striking iron. No dark spells wreaking havoc on flesh, iron or stone. The denizen awkwardly went about their day on an order cease fire.

The reason for this order was because it was a very special day. Perhaps just as important as the day it was created or when Lucifer was made king of the underworld.

Today was his wedding day, under the red sky, Lucifer and Lilith were beaming at each other with pure joy. The fallen priest had almost finished the ceremony. Lucifer had paid the fallen priest to make a ceremony for this wedding that was unlike anything before.

It had to be special and one of a kind. And it had been just so. It seemed he had hired quite the creative man. The ceremony was heartwarming and surprisingly innocent. It might had also helped that he threatened the man that if he messed up. He would be thrown into the pits and his soul would be eaten away by the hellish flames.

He thought about also adding some insults to his parent or heavenly siblings just to spit in their eyes more. It was ironic enough that one of their ex-devoted priests was now bringing him and the love of his life together. But he chose otherwise, this was his day after all. He wouldn't have his siblings sour his mood anytime soon.

It was definitely quite the show for the few that were invited. It was a small crowd of overlords and nobles. The ceremony ended with "You may now kiss the bride". The two didn't waste time and embraced each other in a long passionate kiss.

The crowd cheered and clapped. Lucifer knew that some if not half were putting on a facade, showing support and get on his good side. Though, it didn't bother him at all as the group slowly made their way to the dining hall for the feast. Exotic food and drink cooked and brewed from recipes from all over the world were brought to them by servants.

He gazed upon the lords, princes and dukes and wondered who had the balls to come over to him first. They would no doubt try to make deals, partnerships or ask favors from him. He would humor a few, he was in a great mood if not the best mood he had ever been in a long time.

It wasn't long until the feast was over and the couple moved to another table to receive gifts. The gifts varied from wine and other consumables to servants and expensive objects. They were halfway through the wedding party when he looked up to see who was next. To say he was surprised was an understatement.

Standing in front of the couple was an angel, one of Lucifer's closer brothers. He didn't have his wings out and he hid his face. But nothing could hide the aura around him. Though it was surprisingly faint, he must have used a powerful spell. He wore a simple green robe with a dark grey leather belt around his waist. A simple wooden mask and a hood covered his face.

"Hello brother, it's been awhile". "Nanael, what are you doing here"? Lucifer arched his brow with suspension, if heaven was going to mess with him on his wedding day he was going to be livid. "What, I can't come and see my little brother's wedding". Nanael said with some humor in his tone. "Cut to the chase Brother, why are you here? I swear to the pits of hell if you were sent from heaven to fuck up my wedding. I will pluck your wings clean and throw you to the lords".

A few of the overlords chuckled and inch closer to the angel ready to pounce on him. Nanael raised up his hand "no no no, Lucifer you misunderstand. I was not sent by the council. I came here on my own terms. I was just happy to hear that you two finally made it official. So I came down here to watch the marriage and I even brought gifts".

The overlords and guards readied their weapons, spells and claws in case the angel tried anything funny. Nanael brought his hands together and pulled them away to bring a vase with a red rose plant from thin air. "I grew these myself, I knew you liked the color so I spent my time growing this red rose bush".
