Shantanu completed his assignment and presented it, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. "Here, it's done. Are you satisfied now? You've been on my case forever, standing me up like a guard. That ruler wasn't necessary."
Veer retorted, "You keep sitting down in between; someone has to remind you, and this way works best."
Shantanu, with a mix of jest and exasperation, said, "Yeah, you're really enjoying this, aren't you?"
Just then, Manik entered the scene. Observing the situation, Shantanu approached him for support, "Look, brother, they've been troubling me all day. They kept me standing while I did the assignment. Can you believe it took me three hours? I'm completely exhausted. It's not like the punishment should be so severe that a young kid's legs start hurting."
Manik couldn't help but laugh at Shantanu's dramatic plea. "Stop with the drama queen act. And don't even think about pulling this act , we all know how innocent you are and i know that your leg are completely fine you can fool anyone not me okay you have known this antics from me " he advised, chuckling.
Shantanu, feeling defeated by the lack of sympathy, told him, "you know what , You go on, brother. I don't even want to talk to you either. you always do this you love teasing me right why why ? you know i am seriously harshly punished by this devil and you are also one ..just go "
Veer, exasperated, pointed out the imbalance, "So, you make the mistake, and we get the brunt of your frustration? That's fair, isn't it? Don't act so innocent, as if you've done nothing wrong."
Shantanu glanced at the floor, feigning innocence, "What can I, a mere innocent, possibly do?he said in his dramatic helpless voice It's all about the gang-up against me."
Manik interjected, offering a peace offering, "Quiet now. stop okay , this is enough drama for today now go and eat this I brought you ice cream. you have been edging me from days so Eat it and calm down, my treacherous Bhima. and spare me , my little one you won .. "
Just as Shantanu's mood seemed to lighten, Veer stepped in, "No ice cream now, Shantanu. It's late; you shouldn't eat it right now. Have dinner first, then you can have it. Understand? and manik behave like elder brother you do know this is dinner time right so remember this oaky
then veer said Stop giving me that look , shan ; you're quiet now, but those eyes of yours seem like they could eat me alive."
Manik, changing the subject, announced , "Brother, I am tired , i want to eat something , what is it at home ?
Veer said " i told you earlier , you can not eat snacks now , bhai will come in 10 minutes , he will prepare simple meal okay so wait for some time till then you can have some dry fruits or even freshn up
Bhai I do not like Dry fruits , stop giving me it's healthy look . okay I can make Maggi ,anyway i am so angry that is only thing i can do now I want to make Maggi. I can't deal with all that healthy stuff tonight; that's all yours., I do not like that i am not in mood to wait even you know you please save me say that to bhai that i just slept because i was so tired please .. okay "
Veer, foreseeing trouble, warned, "Wait, Arjun bhaiya won't tolerate any nonsense when it comes to food. Come back here! You're not listening. Today you're going to get me scolded. Why should I always be the scapegoat? ohh yep i forgot Viren bhai is here too. Viren bhai, please come here, look at Manik making Maggi, he won't listen to me. Every time I end up being reprimanded by Arjun bhaiya for wanting Maggi. He always takes advantage of me,, i am fed up of this ."
Shantanu just laughed and turned to Veer, "This was bound to happen. When you always cover for Manik bhai, this is the result. Why don't you ever save me? You're always ready to rain thorns down on me. Today, I'll tell bhai everything, that you gave permission for making Maggi, that you scold me while you always save Manik bhai. I'll reveal all your biased actions."
Veer retorted, "Quiet! you do know to enjoy yourself and throw me under the bus right now listen He was the class topper, understand?" As he said this, he tugged at Shantanu's ear. "His admission is already secured; yours is still pending. You're still a chick, grow up, then talk. First, bring home some decent marks, or you'll disgrace the whole family. so i had to be strick with you "
Shantanu mockingly touched his own ear, "What's with the ear? Don't you have your own ears to grab if you're so keen on it? Spare me today, please, just stop."
Viren arrived, puzzled by the summons. "What's going on? Why did you call me?" Veer quickly explained, "Manik is making Maggi right now, and in 10 minutes Dhir bhai and Arjun bhai will be here. They won't spare anyone, especially me. They don't let things slide; they'll scold only me."
Shantanu chimed in with concern, "Dhir bhaiya doesn't let anyone off easily; he's quite strict with me. What are you talking about? He doesn't save me, and when you do things like this, it creates bias among the children and starts problems."
Viren reassured them, "Okay, I'll go talk to him. Now, both of you be quiet and stop fighting, or I'll have to scold you both.and beat the shit out of both of you "
Shantanu embraced him, a knowing smile on his face, "You're never actually going to hit me; I know that. Go on, explain it to bhai."
Viren approached Manik and inquired, "Do you enjoy getting scolded every day? Bhai has forbidden you from making Maggi, and Veer has told you no as well. Why don't you listen?"
Manik defended his choice with a hint of defiance, "I can't keep waiting for that health food forever. Why can't I have something tasty for a change and on my own right so please let me continue ?"
Viren tried to reason with him, "You've become spoiled after starting college. You want junk food every day, but we have rules here. Sundays are your cheat day; wait until then. Who's stopping you?"
Manik protested, ", please let me have it , i am not asking for 1000 crore property you see But I want to eat it today, bhai. Is it really that hard to have just one Maggi in our own home?"
Viren explained with patience, "Look, Shan can't eat it; his medical condition doesn't allow it. He has ARFID disorder, and junk food is off-limits for him. If you eat it, it'll make him want it too. Let it be. Besides, what's wrong with the home-cooked food? Bhai will cook something delicious when he gets here."
Manik voiced his frustration, "Since childhood, I've always had to avoid doing things that he can't. If I wanted to skateboard, there was fear he'd fall. Am I supposed to sacrifice every time? Why should I? My friends eat whatever they want every day, and I can't even eat my favorite foods in my own home. This 'grass and twigs' that bhai cooks, you can have it all."
Viren's anger peaked after Manik's outburst. His eyes blazed as he scolded him, "Enough of your drama, understand?" He was weary yet filled with intensity. "Bhai comes home tired every day, and still he cooks for all of us. You can't even appreciate that. He's exhausted, yet he takes the time to make sure we're all fed. People long for homemade meals, but you? Have you ever seen those struggling for food? You're getting healthy food at home and yet you're acting spoiled."
Manik realized it was time to back down. He quietly responded, "Bhai, I didn't mean to discredit bhai's efforts. I was just craving Maggi today, that's all."
Viren, having made his point, directed him, "Enough now. Go to your room. And if you continue to only want junk food, you'll never appreciate the value of a normal meal. You won't eat with us tonight, understand? Go upstairs, eat your junk food, and be happy. That's what you wanted, right? Go."
Shantanu, having witnessed the entire confrontation, approached Viren bhai and gently offered, "Bhai, please have some water. Calm down. It's actually my fault. Bhai always makes sacrifices for me; don't be angry with him.be angry with me instead "
Veer bhai arrived upon hearing the commotion, returning from buying a new iPad as a gift for Shantanu. He walked in and pleaded with Viren, "Calm down. bhai , why were you so angry even you know how he is he talks first then think now stop with pretense for punishment for a change take a step Go and talk to him. You know that if he doesn't eat, nobody else will enjoy their meal. He's just a kid in college, small cravings are natural, right? We all have enjoyed our fair share in the past. This generation learns differently. Now, relax and go explain it to him gently. And Shantanu, it's not your fault, okay? so stop with this okay , now You go study."
At that moment, Dhir and Arjun entered the home, both of them laughing, unaware of the tension that had just unfolded
