What did I get in to? I thought to myself.
“Are you scared?” Chris asked me.
“A little…now I’m really regretting picking dare.” I respond, my voice wavering.
“Well you’ve got me and I’ll protect you!” Chris says puffing out his chest like Superman.
I roll my eyes and laugh nervously.
Last night we were playing truth or dare—okay it might sound childish for a bunch of sixteen year olds to play truth or dare, but we were definitely not going easy on each other. My best friend Kylie dared me to do this.
I was just stupid enough to choose dare and now I’m in this pathetic mess. Kylie dared me to go to Forest Hill Elementary School and stay there for at least three hours. This might not seem scary at all, but if you know the background story, you would never think about doing this. In other words, Forest Hill Elementary is haunted.
No, it’s not your typical “Oh a girl died in the bathroom” haunted. This is a place where 100 innocent little children and 25 teachers were murdered. That was ten years ago. And ever since, not a single soul has dared to enter that school.
I mean police officers went in to investigate and all, but nobody ever bothered to clean up the school or knock it down or anything. Why? Because there has been some evidence that a demon possessed the person who murdered all of those people. Some security cameras captured a red shadow leaving the suspect after the shooting rampage had ended. Sadly, the suspect fled before the police came and has not been found.
“Alex? Alexandria you okay?” Chris asks me interrupting my thoughts.
“What? Oh, um yeah I’m okay” I respond, my voice cracking. Now I was kind of hoping that he would suggest we go back if I was scared, but he didn’t to my disappointment.
We continue to walk down a dirt path in Forest Hill (the actual forest the school is named after) that leads right to the back entrance of the school. Then as we entered a clearing in the forest, the air around me seemed to change. Everything got cold all of a sudden and the wind started going crazy. We noticed that there were many jagged rocks sticking out of the ground so we had to be very careful of where we stepped.
We finally got to the school and we looked at each other to see if one of us was brave enough to go in first. At the same time we both ran in because we didn’t want to show our fear.
The school was cold and very dark.
“Man, this doesn’t even look like it was a school.” Chris says looking around. He started walking down the hall while I try to figure out how to work the camera Kylie gave me to video tape anything scary we see.
“Chris hold on! Don’t leave me here. CHRIS!”
“Relax Alexandria I’m not going to leave you here alone!” Chris says in a frustrated tone.
“Fine, I’ll relax. But if I end up getting killed here, it’s your fault.” I mutter under my breath. After fiddling around with the camera for about five minutes I notice that Chris wasn’t with me anymore. “So much for not leaving me alone!” I yell, more mad than scared. This is exactly why I shouldn’t have brought him.
I start walking down the hallway and I peek into the first classroom I see. “Chris you in here?” I ask quietly. I set down the camera in the hall so that I can go look for Chris without having to carry it with me. I walk into the classroom and the first thing I notice is that there are puddles of dried blood on the ground. Then I notice there is another puddle of fresher blood with a trail leading to a closet. I walk towards the closet and slowly open the door. And I find nothing. Just a big puddle of blood.
