"She better have an excuse for this" Clarissa complained for what felt like the thousandth time as she pulled into the driveway of the house.
"Did you guys have a great time" looking through the rear view, she asks Max and Jamie.
"Yeah"
"Perfect" they both answer their noses buried in their phones."Why don't you guys just... " She sighs and turns to them but they were already out and shutting the door.
She parks the car and steps out searching for her copy of the house keys in her purse but by the time she pulls out the keys she notices the door wide open and the boys just staring into the house.
"Kate" Clarissa calls out but there is no answer
"Hold on" she moves past the boys and takes a step in, immediately turning on the lights. The first thing she sees is blood. It looked like a struggle, bloody footprints, bloody hand prints, blood smears on the floor with all of that surrounded by broken glass. From their family portrait.
"There's a problem, I think" Jamie says peering into the house
"Yeah, the door's wide open"
"And she made a mess with ketchup, that's usually my thing"
"It's blood you half wit"
"Kate...?" now she was anxious. Was Katherine okay, she couldn't bring herself to think of Kate being anything but ok.
Stepping over the glass and blood she hurries into the house and sees it again.
There at the door of the kitchen, on the floor lay glass shards from her favourite vase and more blood.
Panicked she fumbles for her phone trying to call Kate and when it goes through she hears it ring in the same room. Following the sound she finds the phone with it's screen cracked in a million different ways lying on the kitchen floor.
"Looks like she dropped it" Jamie says as they see the phone
"Yeah, from a fudging plane"
"Call Jess, maybe she knows where she is"
"Or what happened" Max sensibly adds to his brothers words
Immediately she rings her daughter's friend but time and time again it goes to voice mail. She was becoming more than anxious and it was never a good sign, this wasn't a good sign. Not after she left him a long time ago. Not after he took John away from them.
He couldn't have gotten to her, he just couldn't. Scrolling through her contacts she dials Zane as she leaves the kitchen and goes into the living room.
"I'm guessing she's not answering" Max says as they follow behind her. They really weren't helping
"Why don't you both go up to your rooms ok"
"Uhh... Sure but what about dinner"
"We ate at George's house"Max counters
"But I'm.... ""Max, take your brother upstairs please"
"C'mon, why couldn't you be born with more brains" Max complains as he pushes his brother towards the stairs.
Taking a deep breath, she dials Zane again and luckily this time he answers.
