We walked together, my hands pulling him closer so we faced each other, but Joe hesitated when I spoke. "You," I giggled, blissfully unaware of his shutting down. My eyes were pressed upwards with my cheeks and all I could make out was the light from the oncoming sunset and the blues of the peer. He cleared his throat. "I need you just a little closer," I teased, and feigning shyness, I hid my face behind my loose hair.
When I looked back up, the Joe swooped his head down and kissed me. I paused, and then softened into the kiss, until I felt something wet on my cheek.
I pulled back, searching for Joe's eyes, and though he looked away, I didnt need to see anything to know something was wrong.
My hands found his cheeks, and I wiped away the salty tears which fell from his long lashes. "You can talk to me," my head pressed into his chest as I whispered, then my arms found his back, and I let them wander up and down, soft enough to test if Joe wanted me to continue. He was still for a while, like a tower which only swayed in the wind. Then he looked into my eyes with his red ones still blured. It was like he was searching for clarity but didn't find it as he hung his head low. The breeze swept his hair upwards, and I pulled him into me as I rested on the metal railing.
"I just want to stay here,"
I glanced at his blushed face and nodded. "Then that's what well do."
We both stared out to the ocean, the sunset lighting up our faces with orange and purple, with the sun bouncing off Joe's wet eyes. My head rested on his shoulder, and I slowly turned to kiss it, working small pecks up to his jaw and I whispered, "i love you."
