Alex

As my eyes adjusted to the dimly lit room, I realized that it wasn't darkness that greeted me, but rather a surprise waiting to unfold. My brother's hands covering my eyes had startled me, but his familiar voice reassured me.

"It's me, idiot! Shut up," Adrian's voice rang out, his words laced with affection as he removed his hands from my eyes. Blinking in surprise, I took in the scene before me.

A warm glow illuminated the room, casting a soft light on the lavish spread laid out on the table. A magnificent birthday cake adorned with candles stood proudly at the center, its decorations tailored to reflect my personality and tastes. My heart swelled with gratitude at the effort my brother had put into arranging this surprise celebration.

"Wow," I breathed, feeling overwhelmed by the sight before me. "This is incredible."

"Where's mom?" I asked.

"Happy Birthday little baby" My mom greeted me pulling my cheeks from behind.

"Mumma.. I'm not a baby. I'm in my late twenties."

Adrian grinned, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Happy birthday, little brother."

I chuckled, feeling a surge of warmth and affection for my brother. "Thanks, Adrian. I can't believe you pulled all this off. But as much I remember my birthday is tomorrow."

He clapped me on the back, a proud smile spreading across his face. "Check the time it's already past 12:15 am. Well, you only turn twenty seven once, right? Might as well make it memorable."

As I took my seat at the table, surrounded by family, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the love and support of those closest to me. Despite the chaos and uncertainty of life, moments like these reminded me of the importance of family and the bonds that held us together. On these occasions I miss dad, I wished if he was also here with us three.

"Where were you? You're much later than usual," Adrian inquired as he glanced up from his phone.

I shrugged off my jacket and sank into the nearest chair, exhaustion weighing heavily on my shoulders. "Actually, I had a recent photoshoot with a new rising actress," I explained, running a hand through my hair. "I was editing the photos and preparing the documents to send to the magazine."

Adrian nodded understandingly, his expression sympathetic. "Sounds hectic. How did it go?"

"It went well, actually. The actress was surprisingly easy to work with, and I think we got some great shots," I replied, a hint of satisfaction creeping into my voice despite my weariness.

"That's good to hear. You've been working nonstop lately," Adrian remarked, concern evident in his tone. "Don't forget to take some time for yourself, okay?"
