The air felt thick as he slowly entered the room, his mind reeling at this unexpected summons at this late hour. As he stepped in between the massive mahogany chairs and into the dimly lit office, he could feel the air fill with an intense sense of foreboding.
His superior, a tall, imposing man with a stern expression, beckoned for him to sit in front of the desk. He seemed to be waiting for him to speak, but the unexpected summons had left him speechless.
The man watched him sit, seemingly waiting for him to speak. Peter felt a nervous flutter in his stomach as he sat, unsure of the reason he had been summoned here.
"Peter, as you know, our mission here in this city is a critical one. The stakes are high, and the consequences of failure are immense. We must act with the utmost discretion, and the utmost secrecy," the man said, his stern expression unchanged.
“I understand but sir— But our spies we've disguised kept disappearing!”
The man sighed and sat back in his chair, seeming to consider this new information.
"That is indeed a cause for concern. The enemy must have discovered the identities of our spies, and is systematically eliminating them. This cannot continue. We must act decisively, to ensure our information network is secure, and to ensure our mission is successful.”
Peter gave an exasperated sigh but at the same time a dark figure formed behind him out of shadows and murky black liquid — a surprising appearance from a latecomer.
“Vervaine” a commanding officer, a somewhat “duo” to Peter, A mysterious man, Slender, Eerie and a trickster.
“Pardon my late presence, But surely no offence taken hm? Hm?” Vervaine said enthusiastically
The man at the desk raised an eyebrow at the latecomer, who seemed to be a friend or associate of Peter's.
"It's quite alright, Commander Vervaine, please, join us. We've just been discussing the recent disappearance of our spies. It seems the enemy has discovered their identities and is systematically eliminating them. Do you have any information that might be relevant to this issue?” The man asked.
Vervaine who cheekily sat on the man’s desk and posed his legs as if a schoolgirl ready to spill gossip and rumours.
“Diiissscoveeereeed? A city foreign to technology? Thaaaat smaaart? Preposterous! Unheard of ! Simply impossible!”
The man at the desk sighed, and then addressed Vervaine directly and sternly.
"Commander, the situation is serious. The enemy has somehow gained access to information they should not have, and are using that information to eliminate our spies. The consequences of this are massive, and we must act quickly and decisively to ensure our intelligence network is secure. We cannot afford to simply dismiss this as 'impossible'.
Please, have you any information that might be relevant?”
Vervaine gave a “Hmph!” And sat beside peter who gave a raise of an eyebrow, Seemingly trying to expect his moves.
Vervaine raised three fingers “What i said IS relevant information.” He put one down. “They are foreign to any technology and our plans and could never expect someone coming after them, especially Eudoxians.” He put another one down. “They respect painters and would never dare harm those who enter and spread the practice of arts and performance— painters are in high regard, Painters who're disguised spies.” He put the final finger down.
Soon Vervaine slouched on Peter's shoulder and said “Peter, can’ye believe this man? Yapping? Intel network that— hell they're just nerds with a screen all day !” He added trying to point at the man.
