Chapter One

CHAPTER ONE -NEILS POV

"You come her alot." Alice, the barista says with a smile.
I know her name because of her name tag.
I look up and smile.

"Good coffee." I say shrugging.
Her smile widens.

"You don't ever drink the coffee" She says and chuckles.
I glance at my coffee cup, still full.

"Pretty girl?" I say.
She cocks her head.

"Is that a statement or a question?" She asks with a smile.

"Statement." I say.
She blushes, and fiddles with a bracelet on her left wrist.
She notices me looking at her wrist and she pust her arms behind her back, and smiles. "Thank you." She says softly.

I'm about to say something when the door dings, She walks off and greets the person.

"Hello! Welcome, what can I get for you?" She asks.

"Large coffee, black please." A man says gruffly.

I look up as I hear the man talk, he looks over at me and glares.
He waits for his coffee, pays and then walks heavily over to my table.

"Boss wants you to come home." He says coldly.
I sigh and take a sip of my now cold coffee.

"Now." The man says. "I'll drive you." He adds.

I look at him.
"I have my own car." I say and he just glares.
I sigh and stand up, I take a hundred dollar bill out of my wallet and toss it on the table.
I follow him out the door, and he opens the backseat door of his car.

"Get in." He says.
I do so, barely pulling my legs in the car before he slams the door shut.
We drive for an hour before we get to the mansion boss owns and houses all the gang members in.

"He's in his office." The man says when we get inside.
I don't acknowledge him and walk off going to the boss's office.
I knock and hear a gruff 'come in', and I open the door and walk in.

"Ah, there he is!" Boss says, sounding happy.

"What can I do for you, sir?" I ask.
He motions for me to sit down in a chair across from him.
I take a seat.

"I'd like to give you a promotion, Neil." He says. I stare for a moment.

"What? A promotion?" I ask.

"You heard it right. You are one of my most loyal men, Neil." He says.
I look down and then back up at him.

"I don't know what to say, sir.." I say.

"Say you'll take it, say thank you!." He says and smiles.

"Yes, sir, thank you." I say, returning the smile, though mine is forced.
He claps his hands together.

"Great! Miguel will explain everything to you later, but for now, go celebrate with Jayce. Y'all haven't gotten to see each other in a while." Boss says.

I smile. It had been a while since I'd seen Jayce.

"Thank you, Boss." I say and stand up. As I near the door, He says.

"Neil?"
I turn and look at him.

"Yes?"
He leans forward and looks into my eyes.

"You are like a son to me, don't you ever forget that." He says.

I smile and nod, "Thank you, sir." I say and leave the room.
