On the ride to the game Noah and Chris kept talking. I wasn't paying attention though because I assumed it was just about football. Once in awhile, they would both look back or into the rear-view mirror until they noticed I saw them. When we arrived to the game, Chris and Noah walked me to my parents. We had to go right past the student section and immediately everyone went into hushed whispers. Luckily, Noah knows I hate these games because of the constant stares I get. So, he walked closest to the student section. When I sat down by my parents, they were pulling on Noah and Chris's cheek like they were little boys that just finished the monkey bars. "Good luck!" That was the best I could or wanted to say to them. My parents told them they would proud even if the scouts didn't notice them. Then down the bleachers and into the locker room they went.
.......................
From what I could tell and was paying attention to, this was a very good game. Our team was winning and I could hear the student section even with noise-cancelling headphones. It's halftime which mean't the national anthem would be sung, the cheerleaders would perform, and the captain would give a speech. That captain used to be me. I was always nervous my speech wasn't enough but now that I think about it, I should've cared a lot less. It was never worth stressing over. Whenever my parents made me go to a game, I would leave right before the cheerleaders performance. It was just better I wasn't there to watch. I would want to correct tons of things they messed up on. But now, that isn't even and option nor my choice. They sung the national anthem, which the whole crowd was loud for. Whenever they were loud I always thought that, that was so disrespectful. I'm right though, it is disrespectful. Then, as the cheerleaders filed out into the middle of the field, smiles smacked on their faces, my parents looked at me. I would've left but something urged me to say. Maybe, I was finally strong enough to sit through the performance, without wishing I was on the field. So, I stayed. Noah looked back to see if I was gone, but when he saw me, he nudged Chris and they both turned around to stare. Chris gave me a thumbs up and continued his attention back on the field. Then the music started. The exact music that was supposed to be used in our state performance. They started dancing and immediately I noticed little mistakes that coach would most likely point out at practice. As the performance ended, they turned on the spotlight to the middle of the field. I didn't know who the captain was, nor did I care. Thats when my ex best friend, Kendall, walked out into the center, microphone in her hand, smirk on her face. She cleared her throat and gathered everyones attention by saying, "What a game am I right!?" Gosh, she was so snarky and a little brat. Ever since the incident, its been like I never even existed. I used to know every little detail about her but right now I'm sitting in the stands, watching and listening to a stranger talk. "First, I would like to thank the players. Your the reason we are on this field today. I would also like to wish that they stay safe and football is a dangerous sport." She was such a pick me. I looked over to see Noah and Chris whispering and laughing. They were thinking the same thing I was. Kendall continued, "Second, Coach Anderson! We would never be here without you. Next stop state!" She giggled and then went quiet. She definetely knew I was hear by what she said next. "Lastly, thank you Tay Tay. Your wipeout was tragic, but, look where I am now!" Wow, she really thought of me like that. Like, I wasn't the won to help her not fail? I ran out of the stands and went to sit in Chris's car. Im done. Im done with being treated like my feeling don't exist or matter. Its so annoying! I whipped out my airpods and put on music. Thats where I sat for the rest of the game.
