A long time ago, Grandmother Megan lived on an old English country farm during her younger years. That was in the 1980's, which to me sounded like it was retro or something. I come from her side of the family so that doesn't make things weird, right? I mean, she would tell her grandchildren stories about the horse land called Equestria and her adventures saving the day, hanging out with ponies who have magic and can fly, singing songs and making new friends. When my mom would tell me all of that in her own words every time I go to sleep, I would not believe it. I mean, I like ponies as much as the next girl, but just the regular ones. Liking ponies that have all that magic and friendship stuff just isn't my thing. I'm more of a modern Duel Monster card fighter, beating down bullies that take prized cards from nerds, hanging out with friends I can trust since we were babies, and cute fashion accessories! I could never see myself going to the world of Equestria and make pony friends... except that one day me and my big mouth got karmafied by a ghost named Twilight Sparkle...
My name is Caleb Williams and I live on a ranch in the Northern outskirts of Austin, Texas. To be blunt, my voice would pretty much sound like any northern Texas citizen from the U.S.A. . But I'm mostly English, so I can't talk a old cowboy or anything. I always loved the Yu-Gi-Oh anime a lot and have played some of the games, but what I really play... is the IRL card games that make monsters and field spells come to life!! I mean, when they announced that they were gonna bring Duel Monsters into reality; nothing like virtual reality, but like we get to see and use real solid vision-like monsters! I was even lucky to get a custom-made duel disk ordered to my home! This was a mixture of both the Zexal and Pendulum Duel Disk with an extra slot for Link monsters, just like in the anime. Anyways, it was the start of summer break and I was just strolling down the road, when I heard a voice that was familiar and yet eerily strange? I looked to my right into an alley and I see a store that's never been there before while walking down in the town. I had just come from my local card store for buying the latest structure deck plus a few extra support cards I managed to employ during my visit.
With my decks complete, I walked on home but then, I heard a voice from the alley next to me; mere meters away from my ear. "Caleb... Caleb...". I was lured over after looking both ways and moved toward the voice. My heart was saying "Don't go! What if it's a trap!?", all the while my head could actually trust this ghostly voice. "Maybe it's a cry for help?", my heart sank from my curiosity taking over my body, wondering where the voice came from. I met the entrance to the store and opened the door, rusty yet adorned with stained glass depicting ponies like the ones from my great x4 grandmother's stories. Creaking along the axis of the door's screws, I stepped on to the store floor and entered the building's interior ever so carefully. The light flickered on like a castle hall lit by magic torches when entering the sacred lair of a dragon....no wait, that would be more fitting for a pyramid in Egypt. Relics and curios, old vases and art paintings littered the interior; all were spaced out to make sure people who could actually observe these antiques didn't smash or break anything. As I observed what was all around me, I reached the counter which had shelves of gems of different kinds colors and shapes: rubies, sapphires, topazes, emeralds, amethysts, you name it! So being the respectable customer that has never heard of this anonymous establishment of a store, I looked for one of those bells you ring at a hotel and waited for someone to come to the counter. In just a few seconds after I turned my back in waiting, someone pops out behind the counter and spooks me up when I yelp out loud! "Hello, customer! Welcome to Rarity for You: Where Generosity's never rare for the right price! My name is Tabitha Spellman. Looking for something nice for a friend?", share said in an upright position with a can-do attitude.
"Um, hi... I'm Caleb Williams and...", I sheepishly tried to get some words out of my mouth. This Tabitha person was weird only because she had purple skin. At first I thought she had a skin allergy symptom or she had a bad tanning day at the beach, or something. She smiled and waited patiently for the next words to come out of my mouth; I could barely keep the conversation going let alone a few words just to say hello. Alright, enough of this! Let's keep this going on with the story... I found the courage to start speaking again. "Well, my name is Caleb Williams and I just noticed this store that has never been seen by anybody, ever, and I like what I see here and I have a few more bucks to spend. So I should splurge a little more, right?" As the dust cleared from that line of spiel of mine, Tabitha knew well I had been brave just now. She closed her eyes and sighed in relief, as if she was expecting something out of me. "You know... you remind me of a friend who always acted just like how you did now. But she always learned over and over the things that made her be less of a pushover: courage, bravery, self-belief, and the most important of all...". She held me in a pause of suspense for a second, just before continuing. Tabitha continued "...Magic.". I was a little confused... what did she mean by magic?". I only worked up the courage to start the conversation; I didn't talk like I was anti-social or something. As I thought to myself, she grabbed a wooden box from one of the higher shelves in her area and showed me what was inside. "I think this will fit your budget: It's called a Cutie Mark badge. It symbolizes both your talents and purpose in life. A badge for realizing what you can do in your life and how it helps others!". "Okay, but why is it blank?" I asked her why as I have never heard of a Cutie Mark before; yet it somehow feels vaguely familiar... "Try imagining what your cutie mark should look like, then let the magic happen."
I hoped that this wasn't a scam but I went through with it and visualized my cutie mark. I made look like the pattern on my duel disk, and then... it became a pendulum chakra stone with an X on the backside, showing the synchro effect rings on a jeweled circuit board with the fusion swirl all around it. I did not miss the glowing dust that flowed into the mystic charm as I felt the store elevate and shake a little, antiques rattling about. I did swirl a little, and then I sighed after feeling the rush. " Wow... that was intense... hey, my cutie mark looks great! How much for it?", I asked in glee, naming my price based how much I have left in my wallet. Tabitha replied, "No price. It's on the house... although you must promise me to do something after this store disappears and you go somewhere new: save Equestria from those who would harm it with your Duel Monster skills." I was puzzled as she told me what to do in a way sounding like she was from a video game. I asked her, in curiosity why? "Why do you want me to do that? What's going to happen to Equestria?". Tabitha only stared at me in disdain but had a glimmer of hope deep within her eyes. As the whole world or the store started to shift and churn, I felt scared and cringed as she drifted away with her last words: " Every-pony knows about Duel Monsters themselves; they have learned from your kind many moons ago when I was young, and now a new generation has learned from the past to evolve the present that is the future of my world, they have studied the lost art of dueling. Here's hoping that you will find friends when you are alone. And my name is really... Twilight Sparkle." As she spoke, I tried running over to her, thinking that her spot was the most safest. Reality bending and twisting, the store and all within it was going to be crushed. I ran panicked and panting; this Twilight Sparkle person, whoever she was, vanished like dust in the wind. All I could see before me was a hole of white light like a door appeared out of nowhere. My only choice was to run to towards the door before the darkness could catch and kill me! I run with all of my strength, duel disk and all my decks in my bag among all the other stuff in tow, and rushed out of the dark void. However as I did that, my body started to change; from two to for, heartbeat to heartbeat, glazed blonde hair turning pastel pink green, growing a tail of the same color; I could feel the bones in my body shifting to start taking in my new form. I grew a horn out from my head as a silver swirl glistened in the dark; my fingers through excruciating pain folded in along with my feet to form hooves and mid sized legs; my hair grew long with strands of lush red, white and blue streaks into a mane and so did the tail protruding from my tail hole; my skin became pure white fur with a hint of blue as the Cutie Mark I was holding became a part of my rear end. Next thing I know as I fell into the white light... I made it into Equestria.
