It was after dusk when I got back home. Mom and Brian, My step-dad, were still upstairs and both were breathing softly and every so often, indicating that they were asleep. The rest of the house was still and silent.
Suddenly Braydon jumped out in front of me as I came around the corner.
Shakily I whisper/yelled at my four year old brother. "Braydon Michael Lynn! Don't you Ever do that again."
As I bathed my little brother then tucked him into bed I was on my way upstairs to my room when I head the Alpha of my pack howl. It was full of urgency and I knew I needed to go but I was just too worn out and tired. When I walked into my room I got a surprise. One that I wasn't expecting nor wanting and it made me pause mid-step.
A few seconds later the shock wore off and I processed that it was only Sam standing in front of me, his sandy colored markings along with his deep brown fur blended just the right way that made me love it. When I looked into his eyes I could see the grave intensity lying in his eyes. I cringed and shooed him out of my room before changing.
After watching Sam land gracefully I did the same and before my feet were on the ground I was sprinting toward my Alpha. All the voices in my head confusing me and driving me half nuts. Everybody was shouting and screaming. The sounds were resonating around in my skull, pounding it. I almost stopped running until I realized Kodyak needed me.
When I got to the small clearing I was greeted warmly by Kody, despite the upheaval of the pack members. I had only once seen my pack in complete and utter turmoil like this.. Memories flashed back and I started to dry-heave, the feeling in my stomach had me twisting and turning every which way, trying to get rid of it. I whined out in pain recalling that night.. that terrible horrific night my father, the greatest alpha, had died. Taking a deep breath, trying to calm myself, I told I would be fine.. Until I blacked out realizing I was just seconds too late.
