Meg was a fairly athletic boy. He liked running and even played a few sports, although he as never good at any of them.
This was just another Sunday afternoon.
Playing stupid games with his friends.
To outsiders, these games were nothing but nonsense. But to Meg and his friends, they were the most important part of life.
Although sometimes they could get a bit dangerous.
Today it was more than dangerous.~★
Sol, Meg's sister, stood at the end of the bridge. The objective of the game was to run all the way down the concrete walkway without being caught by police officers and gate guards.
Meg & co. weren't technically welcome in town.
None of the teenagers were.
They were seen as evil. "the devil's messengers" as the elders called them."You're abandoned at 13 and welcomed at 20." Sol constantly reminded herself. She, taking the most risks by staying in the same spot, was reasonably concerned for the safety of the group.
The rest of the group stood at the other side of the bridge.
They got in a line in the safety of the tunnel, that thankfully was only being guarded by dogs tonight.Gale, Sol's girlfriend, stood at the front of the line.
All seven of the other kids, some nervous, and some so eager to run across the cold grey path, that Gale had to calm them down.Daz went first. His run was perfect, mainly because he was the most competitive kid in the group, next to Meg.
All he had to do was run in a straight line and use the large rubble and scraps of cars as a shield when he needed.
To him it was nothing.
The second to go was Flag. He too completed the task flawlessly.
Then Meg, who was more than happy to break Daz's time record. (Tried and failed.)
Fifth one up was Marx, the quiet girl.
Her run put the two boy's time record in the ground, as per the usual.
And then it was Jug and Bird's turn.
Jug and Bird were the youngest.
It was their first time.
To every kid who left town, your first time was considered to be the moment you officially become a teammate.Bird hid behind Jug.
Jug inched his way to the nearest car and hid under it with Bird following close behind. They had a good strategy, but that would come to an end when there were no more cars left.
Gale watched closely as Jug sprinted to a large rock. Bird was hesitant, but followed anyways. However, once she got to the rock, there was something she was not expecting. A brightly colored lizard lay on a similarity colored mossy stone.
Bird let out a surprised scream.
Yelling was heard in the far distance, but Gale took no time to quickly dash down the street and scoop the two into her hands.
Upon seeing this the team took it as a sign to run into the other tunnel, leaving white lights behind them.
