Chapter Four: Healing
治愈生命的创伤
Despite the daily struggle, he found solace and peace in the nature around him. And as the days passed, the villagers found themselves slowly accepting him as a part of the small community. He made an effort to be kind and helpful, and despite the difficult obstacles, he found himself growing more hopeful for the future. With a sense of belonging and purpose, he was determined to carry on and make the best of his life in this small, river village.
Over the next few years the village elders began to see more of his side of the story and not just the one the baker spun up. They are the depth of his sorrow and desperation, and as a result their hearts reluctantly opened up to him and that small helpless child was finally given the help and kindness he had desperately yearned for. And on the brightside, now that he was getting help, his back didn't hurt anymore, and the daily beatings were minimized to when no one was around.
However even if he was no longer an outcast to their lives, he could never forget what they had done. What they have said. They have traumatized him, broken his self esteem, and forever doomed him to have little trust in those around him.
As summer progressed to its end, Bái Xiān gradually became used to the wilderness. He had made friends with some of the village children and one particular elder. An older woman offered in return for his daily help she and the other elders would give him little bits of food or money. They, however, could not fully support the growing child. By listening to the old woman, he started to gain more knowledge about the area. He quickly realized that it was important to forage for food and start a fire to stay warm. The old woman was gentle and patient; she showed him the different plants he could eat and the best ways to catch small animals.
He also started learning simple tricks to outwit the villagers when they caught him. She taught him to be observant and to stay away from danger. With her guidance, Bái Xiān started adapting to his new lifestyle. He even started to respect and appreciate the simple things in life. Through his experiences, he came to appreciate the beauty of nature even more than ever before. Bai xiān's time in the wilderness would forever change him, and he would never take life for granted.
By the time the sixth autumn arrived, Bái Xiān had formed a strong bond with the old woman and in turn the other villagers were slowly won over, though there were still a few that would beat him and call him filthy names. He had managed to survive the long seasonal years in the unfamiliar environment and, slowly, had used his skills and knowledge to help the village with the daily tasks. He would help the elderly with their chores, teach the children some of the skills his parents taught him, and work the fields to provide food during the long, cold winter months.
Time has flown by after all. And now despite feeling like his parents left him yesterday, he would be turning 11 soon. He has survived a long 6 years along with little help and kindness. But despite this all he was still the helpful, kind hearted child his parents had left behind. He survived and used his kind-heartedness to warm the hearts of the villagers and make them more comfortable with his presence. Furthermore, Bái Xiān knew how to tell a story. He would share tales of his parents night hunts, and the brave standoffs between their tribe and the Ghouls of the night. The villagers were taken in by his bravery and resourcefulness thus learning new things about life from far away lands. As the chilling autumn months approached, all the villagers found comfort in the new stranger that had brought a bit of adventure to their peaceful lives.

Despite being a naive child, making or thinking he would forget the pain in troubles that he had faced, and the hopes his parents wanted for him in life. This thought would have made many people wrong. The troubles made him no longer able to forget. As a result he worked to fulfill his parents' final wish for him.
Before the sun rose every morning, he would practice his cultivation forms and techniques, to make sure he only advanced down the right path. As the days turned into weeks, and week into months, when the cold winter was upon the village freezing the river over, he successfully gathered the materials necessary for his golden core. And slowly but surely he created it. But what he had not known was that the seeds of his dream had been planted long before he was born, built with his parents' careful planning, their wishes, and a gift sent down from the heavens.
Bái Xiān had kept it a secret, that ever since he was a little child, he had been cultivating the dream his parents had set for him - to not just become a powerful cultivator with a strong golden core that would enable him to protect himself and others, but to go beyond, further. Despite not being obligated to divulge his personal ambitions, every night he spent meditating in order to feel the spiritual energy in the world. Before the rising sun, he didn't forget to master each form and technique to make sure he would achieve their dream.
However happy his life may be now, he still felt as though something was missing. Someone, something, he couldn't name it. And despite the help from the other children, the elder, and the fauna, he was still seeing in bleak colors and his eyes still held their dull sheen.
