I hold up the bottom half of the bikini Kaia lent me, eyebrows furrowing. The fabric is bright pink, glittery, and... tiny. My lips part slightly in disbelief.

Is this supposed to cover anything?

Before I can decide whether it's even legal to wear this in public, my door swings open like it was kicked.

"Good morning!"

I jump, nearly flinging the bikini out the window. My mother strides in like a woman on a mission, her heels clicking against the floor like punctuation marks.

I scramble, stuffing the scandalous bikini bottoms into my suitcase. Not that I'll ever wear them. Still- better hidden than confiscated. Thankfully, she doesn't seem to notice.

"Feeling any better today, sweetheart?" she asks, eyebrows softening with concern.

Heat floods my cheeks. "Mom... I was fine yesterday. I'm fine now." I mumble, folding a shirt with aggressive precision.

She snorts, eyes full of mischief. "You weren't fine when you cried into my shoulder for a full hour-"

"Momma!"

She raises both hands in surrender, still grinning. "Okay, okay! You were totally composed and emotionally stable."

Her laugh is light as she runs a hand through her long black hair. "You packed everything?" she asks, tilting her head.

I nod, ticking off my mental list. "Yup. Sunscreen, clothes, hairbrush..."

"Lingerie?"

I gape, scandalized. "Mom!" I shriek, hurling a tank top at her.

She catches it effortlessly and crosses her arms, smirking. "What? You're going to a resort. Young people do wild things on vacation."

I throw a second shirt. "Stop talking."

She chuckles, leaning casually against the bedframe. "Sometimes it's a wonder you came out of me. I was wild."

"I'm wild," I grumble under my breath, plopping onto the edge of the bed.

She raises a skeptical eyebrow. "Since when?"

I groan, snatching a hoodie and chucking it at her. "Out. Leave."

She rolls her eyes, laughing as she ducks and tosses it back. "Fine. Have fun. Me and your father will probably still be gone when you get back."

That makes me pause. "Gone?" I ask, folding slower now.
