ROMAN
As I sat at the bar, waiting for my best friend Kohen to arrive, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me. It had been a long and grueling battle, but I had finally gained full custody of my daughter, Zola. I took a sip of my drink, trying to relax and push away the thoughts of the past few months.
I took a sip of my drink and leaned back against the bar, watching the crowd of people dancing and laughing.
"So, what's new with you, old friend?" he asked as he took a seat next to me.
I took another sip of my drink before responding. "Not much, just dealing with the never-ending custody battle for Zola."
Kohen's expression turned sympathetic. "I can only imagine how tough that must be. How is it going?"
I let out a sigh. "It's finally over. I have full custody now."
Kohen's face lit up with a smile. "That's fantastic news man. I'm happy for you."
"Thanks," I replied, a small smile forming on my lips.
Kohen leaned in closer, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Actually, I have some news of my own. I'm going to propose to Tara."
My eyes widened in surprise. "Wow, that's amazing! Congratulations!"
Kohen beamed with pride. "Thanks, and I want you to be my best man."
My heart swelled with joy. "Of course, I'd be honored."
As we clinked our glasses in celebration.
"Is everything okay with you? You seem distracted and tired." he asks.
I let out a sigh. "It's just been a lot of work, you know? Dealing with the custody case and trying to balance work and taking care of Zola."
Kohen nodded in understanding. "I hear you. Maybe you should consider getting a nanny to help out. It'll give you some time to relax and focus on work."
I thought about it for a moment. I was hesitant to bring a stranger into our lives, but Kohen had a point. I was spread thin and could use some help.
"I don't know," I finally replied. "It's hard to trust someone new with Zola."
Kohen smiled knowingly. "Well, I have a solution for that. Tara's friend, Sarabi, is a nanny and she comes highly recommended. Just think about it."
My interest was piqued. I took out my phone but it was dead so I grabbed a napkin and wrote down Sarabi's number on it.
"Thanks, Kohen. I'll definitely think about it," I said gratefully.
Kohen clapped me on the back. "Anytime, my friend. Now, let's order another round and toast to our future marriages and the end of your custody battle."
"Will I have to carry your ass home tonight?" I ask him.
"Unfortunately my future wife would kill me if I did." He replies with a laugh.
Six Months Ago...
I stormed into Cassie's hotel fuming with anger. Cassie had once again left Zola with strangers while she flew off for her modeling career and I was not going to let it slide. If she had a set nanny maybe but she's leaving her with hotel staff.
"What the hell, Cassie? I thought we agreed to take turns watching Zola!" I yelled, my voice echoing in the small space.
Cassie rolled her eyes and crossed her arms defensively. "Relax, Roman. She's fine. And I have to travel for my job. You know that."
I couldn't believe her nonchalant attitude. "And what about these photos of you partying and drinking all over the tabloids? Is that part of your job too?" I shot back, my anger rising.
Cassie's face turned red with anger. "You have no right to judge me! I'm doing what I need to do to make a living!"
I scoffed, not buying her excuses. "At the cost of our daughter's well-being? How selfish can you be?"
Cassie's eyes narrowed, her own anger matching mine. "I'm not the one being selfish here. You're just jealous that I have a successful career and you're stuck in a boring office Mr Billionaire."
That hit a nerve. "This has nothing to do with my job, Cassie. It's about Zola and how you constantly put your career before her."
Cassie's tone turned mocking. "Oh, please. You shouldn't be talking. How many times in our relationship did I have to beg for a bit of your time? You're married to your job as much as I am. You're just using Zola as an excuse to control me."
I couldn't take it anymore. I waved her off, my patience wearing thin. "I'm done arguing with you. I'm taking Zola and I'm going to get full custody."
Cassie's eyes widened in shock and anger. "You can't just take her, Roman! She's my daughter!"
But I was already storming off to Zola's room, ignoring Cassie's protests. I picked her up gently from her bed.
Zola rubbed her eyes, confused and scared by the commotion happening around her. "What's going on, Daddy?" she asked, her small voice trembling.
I tried to calm her down, rubbing her back and reassuring her. "It's okay, sweetheart. We're just going to go on a little trip."
Cassie, who had followed us into the room, gripped my shirt tightly. "You can't do this, Roman. I'm Zola's mother, she needs me."
I turned to face her, my voice firm. "I don't care, Cassie. You've shown time and time again that you prioritize your career over our daughter's well-being. I won't let that happen anymore."
Cassie's face contorted with anger and fear. "I'll fight you for her, Roman. You can't just take her away from me."
But I was already walking out of the room with Zola in my arms, her tiny arms wrapped tightly around my neck. She looked up at me with big, confused eyes. "Daddy, where are we going?" she asked again.
I gave her a small smile, trying to keep my own emotions in check. "We're going on an adventure, just the two of us. And I promise, everything will be okay."
I can't mess this up. Zola has already been through hell with the custody battle but I still need a nanny and someone to help her with schoolwork when I can't.
