Aadya sat on a bench in the playground with Rohan, glancing around in boredom. Afrin and Abhishek had gone to collect their prize for winning the elocution competition, and she wished she could be there to cheer them on. However, the school rules didn’t allow it, as they deemed it a waste of ‘precious time.’

“I’m going to see Varsha,” Rohan said, a blush creeping up his face. His girlfriend was a 10th grader, and Aadya nodded absentmindedly, not paying much attention.

“You okay?” he asked, noticing her distant look as her cheeks started to turn pink.

“Huh? Yeah, I’m fine. You go, Varsha’s waiting,” she stammered, looking away and biting her lip in nervousness. Rohan chuckled and nodded before walking off.

Aadya sighed as she watched him leave, feeling her cheeks burn.

She quickly scanned the area, her eyes darting around until they finally met his. A smile curled up on her lips.

She got up, intending to approach Abir, but then she saw the PE teacher standing right in front of where Abir was. She gulped, hoping he’d notice her, but he seemed oblivious, looking around but not at her.

She sighed walking toward the other bench with her water bottle, a little away to prevent herself from the hot heat waves.

Aadya was lost in thought, staring off into space, when a voice interrupted her reverie.

"Could you pass the ball?" one of her classmates asked.

She handed him the football, but as she did, she sensed someone watching her. Glancing around, she spotted two senior boys grinning mischievously at her. Feeling uneasy, she tried to ignore them and sat back on an empty bench.

Despite her best efforts to avoid eye contact, the boys' persistent stares made her increasingly uncomfortable. She decided to leave, but one of them approached her before she could get up.

"Your bottle," he said, holding it out with a smirk.

"Th-thank you," she said quickly, taking the bottle, his fingers deliberately brushing hers. The contact made her flinch.
