Nate Carrillo's POV:

Have you ever just wanted to drive away from you're life if only for a short moment? Just to get away from all of the stress, the people breathing down your neck, or even just your family?

I have. In fact, that's exactly what I'm doing right now. I'm driving down the back roads outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania going at a fabulous speed of 110 mph in my brand new black Audi I got for my eighteenth birthday a couple months ago. I would be worried about the cops giving me a ticket if I were inside city limits, but out here there's nothing but farmland and a small Amish village a few miles away.

Sometimes, I have to get away from all the frustrations of life. Mainly including my dad. He wants me to follow in his footsteps and inherit his law practice someday. What he doesn't know is that I actually want to be an English teacher. But no one knows that. No on but my sister, Noelle.

The funny thing is, Dad had always looked to me to carry on the Carrillo family law practice. What he didn't know was that Noelle was the one who wanted to be the lawyer and go to court. You see, Noelle is a tough girl. She is everyone's dream daughter, sister, and friend...until you get on her bad side. Then you better watch out.

"...WHAT THE..."

Mercy Fisher's POV:

Why did I have to leave the only home I ever knew?

I probably look a mess right now. Ma would disapprove of my performance of emotion, but frankly I just don't care anymore.

That's why I ran away. I ran away from the Amish village a few miles down the road. I escaped just a couple hours ago when the sun was setting and I put my little brothers to bed for the last time until who knows when.

You see, I'm seventeen. This is the age a proper Amish girl should think about getting married. The thing is, i didn't want to get married. I overheard my parents talking to the widowed butcher in town. He was telling them how he needed a wife to clean up after him and he saw me last week picking eggs in the hen house and thought I would suffice.

My father and he came to an agreement. If I had stayed, I would be married to the 40-something year old large, greasy town butcher this coming summer. And summer was coming fast.

This is by far the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I just had to keep telling myself it was worth it.

I wasn't paying attention when all of a sudden I hear what I guessed to be a car engine (I had never been out of the village before this). And a wave of muddy water flooded my already chilled body. My dress and apron clung to my body and the cold of the night air set in.

I shivered as I watched the rather fancy car slow to a halt a few yards away. A tall masculine figure stepped out of the car and my breath caught in my throat as he stepped into the moonlight.

Oh man, what did I get myself into?! I had always been taught to never be alone in the same presence as a man unless you're related to him. It's improper. I looked around...nothing, no one. I swallowed hard. It didn't help either that he looked only a little older than me and he was dreadfully handsome.

I looked down at my soiled clothes and suddenly felt very immodest. My dress was sticking to my body and showing certain curves only God should see.

My heartbeat increased as I stood there with the mysterious handsome boy advancing toward me. Oh no.

I turn around and start to walk the other way.

"Hey, wait! Where are you going?" He almost laughed at my retreat.

He ran up to me and looked in my eyes and his whole demeanor changed. He took off his black jacket and placed it around my shoulders. His eyes expressed a deep caring in them, but the moonlight could have been playing tricks.

"Come on, you've obviously lost your way from home. The Amish village is the other way. I can take you back. It will be much faster and you can get out of those wet clothes sooner."

At the latter of his words I blushed and looked down. I looked at the car and then looked at him. He was still standing a little too close for my comfort, but he was smiling down at me and I knew that I could trust him.

"Actually I'm trying to run away." I finally said. He looked at me.

"Well I have to take you somewhere, I can't just leave you here in the middle of nowhere. Do you have any relatives in the city? Anywhere in Pennsylvania at all?"

"No, and if I do, I don't know anything about them."

"Why are you running away?"

I should've expected that question. I was silent a couple seconds.

"Its fine. You don't have to tell me yet. At least let's please get in the car and I'll take you back to my house and you can clean up and get a good night's rest."

"Yes, I'de like that. Thank you."

He opened the car door for me and I slid into the warm black leather passenger seat.
