Chapter 2:

My clock alarm lets off an ear piercing screech and I quickly slam the snooze button for the 10th time. I squint to see the time on the clock which says 8.00. Crap! I need to be at school in half an hour!

I jump out of my bed and grab the nearest clothes that look reasonable. I throw them on and run into the bathroom. I pull my messy hair into a ponytail and rush out of the bathroom. I then grab my bag and run down the stairs.

'Bye mum!' I yell over my shoulder as I run out the door. I can eat something later.

I jump into my old car and try to start the engine. It takes me a few goes but then it finally starts. My car never breaks down but I'm just waiting for the day that it does.

As soon as I get onto the freeway, I relax. I roll down the windows and let the wind whip through my hair. This always makes me feel relaxed, whether it's in a car or on a skateboard. I drive over the Great Valley Bridge that leads straight to the school. I never understood why there was a bridge here, you would think there was some sort of river or creek underneath, but there is just plan land. It's really weird.

I drive into school and park my car in the smallest parking lot in history. I rip my keys out of the ignition and grab my bag. As I run into the main building, I find Molly waiting by my locker.

'What took you so long?' Molly asks as soon as she sees me.

'Good morning to you to.' I say as I open my locker to get my books out.

'Very funny. Come on we've got like 3 minutes to be in class!' She says pulling me towards the classroom.

When we get there, nearly everyone is already sitting in their seats. Molly and I take the two seats in front of Will and Michael. I plonk my bag on the seat in front of Michael and sit down just as the teacher walks in.

'Ok, everyone shut up and listen.' The teacher says as he organises himself. All of the teachers who work here are so boring. He speaks in a monotone and the most vibrant colour he wears is gray. I can tell this is the last place that he wants to be, and I'm glad we can have something in common.

'Before we start this class, I have a few matters to discuss. First of all, the book club meetings will be starting up again soon...'

I'm too bored to listen to what he has to say, and I can tell that the rest of the class feels the same way. I use one of my pens to carve drawings onto the edge of my desk. I already want to leave and it hasn't even been 5 minutes, that's got to be some sort of record.

'Lastly, we have a new student joining us. His name is Edward Reeves so please make him feel welcome.' As if on cue, a guy walks into the classroom and walks over to stand next to the teacher's desk. All of the students' eyes look up. This school hasn't had a new student for ages.

'Why don't you sit down in the empty seat over there?' Says the teacher as he points towards the empty seat beside me.

Molly and I exchange a glance as if to say: He's hot!

He wears a gray t-shirt with a print of a black lion roaring on the front of it, dark blue jeans, and black runners which have been worn out. His hair is messy and light brown, almost blonde.

He sits down and takes out his battered books from his backpack. He turns to look at me and I quickly turn to look back at the teacher and pretend to be interested in what he was saying. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see him turn to look at the teacher as well. I turn to look at Molly and she wiggles her eyebrows, and then passes me a note as discreetly as she could. Her bubbly writing covered a small piece of paper, which read:
