Silence. Silence filled the halls of the abbey, every room and every crevice. Even outside was silent. It was odd. Eerie. If he hadn't been paranoid before, Swiss definitely was now. He wasn't used to this kind of silence. He was used to the laughter and voices and bustle of the other ghouls.

They had gone out and Swiss was left to his own devices. He wanted to go out too but he couldn't bring himself to get out of bed or brush his teeth or even eat. He kept his door locked and curtains closed. An indent grew in his bed where he always laid. It was disgusting. It made him feel disgusting. But he couldn't help it.

The one day he managed to drag himself out of bed, he was alone. Every ghoul had left and his heart felt heavier than ever. No one even tried to knock on his door or check up on him or even send him a quick text. It only took a few taps and it was done... so why didn't they?

He nearly jumped out of his skin at the sound of footsteps pattering behind him and a hand on his shoulder.

"Hey," Rain said, voice quiet and gentle. "How are you feeling?"

Swiss could feel the all-too-familiar lump in his throat and he swallowed thickly, looking down at his feet. "I don't know," his voice hitched and he let out a shaky breath. "I was kind of hoping someone would come check up on me. Is that selfish?"

"No," Rain's voice wavered too. "Everyone's done that at least once in their life. I'm sorry I didn't."

"Why didn't you?"

"I wanted to give you space," the water-ghoul dropped his hand and linked their pinkies together. "I'm sorry. I should have."

"It's fine. You didn't know," the multi-ghoul pulled his hand away and stuffed them into his pockets, curling his tail around his thigh. "I feel gross. I couldn't find the strength to get myself out of bed for Satan knows how long."

Rain shook his head and stepped away, flicking his tail and scoffing. "'s not gross. It's... depression. Sort of. I don't know."

"Can you...," Swiss trailed off, feeling his eyes sting with the swell of tears.

"Do you want me to comfort you?" Rain finished for him and the multi ghoul nodded quickly, desperately. The bassist couldn't help but smile. He still had a soft spot for him after all. "Of course I will."

Swiss let Rain take his hand in his and lead him into the living room. They sat down on the couch and curled up together, the multi-ghoul resting his head on the younger ghoul's chest and letting him run his fingers through his ebony curls. It was silent for a while, but it was also comforting. It was nice, the silence, contrary to how it made Swiss feel earlier.

"Do you want a second chance?" Rain's voice was weak and the multi ghoul clenched his jaw and tensed under his touch. "Seriously?"

"Of course I do." Swiss sighed. "But I'm scared I'm going to hurt you again."

"I hurt you more than anything. I distanced myself from you and I should have let you know I needed space instead of running."

"I love you, Rain. I hope you know that."

"I do, Brie. I do," Rain nuzzled his nose into Swiss' hair and closed his eyes. A low purr kicked up in their chests and they drifted off like that.

They still had lots of feelings and emotions to work out, but for now they curl up on the couch together and enjoy each other's company, content with knowing neither hated the other.
